How's the early June growth so far?

any bull thats going to be 300+ is going to have a ton of antler in mid june. should be on the 5ths at bare min. Mature bulls are done growing in about a month
they might slow down but they dont fully stop until august. At least thats how it is here in nevada. i have seen bulls grow exponentially from july to august.

I seen a California Muley / blacktail cross buck yesterday that was still pretty nubby and short but appeared to have some potential to be a decent 4x4 frame. Didnt get a picture though

Mature bulls are shedding velvet in the first week of August and late would be mid august for a mature bull. I am not talking about a rag horn. The process of the antler hardening is not overnight and occurs over weeks. Once this starts the bull is done growing. Mid july to July 20 with a big bull is what you see is what you are getting.

This Bull is from May 4th, he should be pretty nice by now:

This Bull is from May 23rd, probably a little smaller, but not by much:

Here is a Rosie in CA. He is in a place that hasn't traditionally held elk and is very accessible. I have enough points for this draw tag (22 years) and sort of regret not putting in. But I'll give him another year and learn this new found herd a bit more.

I'll be blacktail/bear hunting there this year. If I fill my my archery tag I'll probably go poke around to see what I can learn about their movements.

I couldn't find the big snoogler. But found this dude with some cows and calves. A couple miles out. Hangin in one of the other honey holes I've got picked out.

Haven't been out yet, are guys killing bulls near where they get summer photos?

My hunt isn't until mid September but I would guess maybe opening week would be good near summer photos?

Typically the bigger bulls group up and will be in different herds from cows/calves/ young bulls. In my experience, they are in different areas. Bulls in one drainage, cows in another. But I've also seen them grouped up together.

This is why I say look for cows in August to find bulls in September. But it isn't universal.

The local area where I live is fairly small and I imagine the herds are separated. But I also suspect they are all bedding and feeding in the same general area.

Finally put eyes on some bulls this weekend in CO. One young 4pt hanging with cows, and two slightly more mature bulls hanging out right next to a big rub area I found last year, one of which looks like he'll be pretty wide for this unit (but filmed from 2.5 miles away, hence the potato quality)

Saw 4 bulls today, took some really blurry pictures. 2 we're pretty solid 5 points, the other 2 were 4 points.
