Recently bought a savage 116 with accustock in 300 win. I've never had a bi-pod before. Like to hear some recommendations. This rifle is primarily for hunting. Looking for reasons why you recommend. Experience? Do's and don'ts.

Thanks for the help.

If you buy a Harris, watch your fingers when retracting the legs.

That's about all I can tell you about bi-pods. Mine either ride in my pack or stay at home as i don't want the added weight on my rifle. YRMV.

Go to the long range forum and read the sticky bipod review Justin did a little while ago. Should cover about top to bottom what you need to make your decision.

I used the Evo pod and it worked well and was simple to use. I'm going to get a javelin bipod to try because of the weight and I think it will work well for coyote hunting. Justin's review is really good on 6 different pods from inexpensive to expensive.

Good luck in your search

I was impressed with the Snipe Pod V2 that dotman had on our bear hunt. Not a traditional bipod per se but perfect for a lightweight, steady rest. I'll be getting one of those at some point.

I've got a Snipe Pod V2 and love it. It's not as robust as some others, but it definitely does the work it's supposed to do. I ordered more of the QD studs for other rifles so the bipod goes rifle to rifle. Easy to carry on the rifle, or on my belt if I'm walking longer distances.
