How do you feel about the Gila tags now going for 15-25k each? Bit much dont you think? At 16A LO tag was 5500 in 2011.
The same way I feel about a Ferrari costing a million dollars, or a guided dall sheep hunt costing 30k. I actually have things that matter to care about. I learned a long time ago, life isn't fair and not everyone gets a trophy.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!! Plenty of high value public land elk in New Mexico. I actually would prefer ALL the LO tags to be put back in to the regular draw. Especially if the LO isnt planning to do anything but sell them anyway.

So what happens when no one hunts the private land and the doubled public land pressure forces the elk onto the private? What about the units with little or no public land? In some areas it wouldn't matter, in others it would start to suck the second day of the hunt. There's a balance and I think the eplus system does a good job.

I think it sucks but that's supply and demand. Similar to what Rez tags and other top tier tags are selling for though. Kinda puts a little extra pressure on a person when they draw one of those units for $99 or even $775.

I think a person should look at the cost of a trespass fee in a Colorado OTC unit or even a draw unit to see what the fees would look like in NM if it went all draw. I would bet 80% or more resident hunters would be priced out of access to some of those private lands, The only reason they're getting those prices is because the customer base has grown and they sell them every single year.

Sure, thats an exact comparison here. If you were given a ferrari that was worth 775.00, but sells for a million dollars, but werent allowed to sell it. Would you still use it? or just park it in the yard and leave it to look at?

Only reason most LO's care about the tags are for profit only.

Huh? I'm not buying LO elk tags so I don't give shit what they cost. If I decide to buy one down the road, I'll try and get a good deal but will most likely be paying market like any other buyer.

If wanted a Ferrari and got one for 775.00 or bought one for a million, I'd drive the hell out of it either way.

Are you saying we should be able to sell our draw tags now when we get them?

As a guy who spends a lot of time with big land owners, many who bought there ground when there wasn't even elk on them, they don't come without cost or issues for the land owner. This helps off set them, the other options are much much worse for the elk.

If you arent buying them , why are you so adamant that people support them? If a landowner has elk on his property and gets a LO tag, he should only be able to use it or sell it as Ranch Only. NOT for profit. Those tags are not meant to support the rancher financially. They are given as a reward. No, i dont propose being able to sell my draw tag. I want the tags available in the draw as equal opportunity, (what little % for NR) there is .

Love e plus! When i dont draw a tag i can go buy a cow rifle unit wide tag and go hunt for less than it cost me to go out of state. Make no mistake about it. BHA is a leftist group who. Ares nothing about your hunting opportunities.......
I would be OK with cow LO tags staying as they are. Those arent the tags the ranchers are making huge money off of. And i despise BHA as much as anyone.

What do you think the landowners will do when the elk, that eat their crops and compete with their cattle, and no longer have value?
The same thing the farmers in the Midwest do. Deal with it.
Insurance, depredation tags. Lobby for higher tag allotments. All sorts of things.

Now I realize resources aren't as plentiful out west as in gods country here. But they have options. I hear alot about victim culture. From my experience some farmers/ranchers are just as guilty as others in this regard.

If they can't sell 10 tags a year and their livestock/yield suffers and they just can't keep food on the table, They can always sell unguided trespass fee hunts to make money and get rid of some pesky wildlife.

Because I like hunting all of the added private access that comes with the E plus program as it sits currently.

Elk aren't private property and don't belong to the people whose property they happen to be on. I don't think individual outfitters and landowners should be able to create a system that doesn't give everyone the same opportunity at a public resource. Leasing ground or charging for hunting access, fine. There's no perfect system that everyone is going to be happy with, but I don't think hunting in NM should go to the highest bidder.

Completely different situations..

Again i have to disagree with anything, anyone or any group that is anti capitalism and anti landowner. The logic only seems to exist in western states that hold elk, moose and other coveted western big game. Meanwhile eastern landowners are exempt from any criticism. Kinda like democrats......

A bull elk eats $15-25k worth of cattle feed?
Not just a bull is eating but possibly a few hundred head of elk also damaged fencing etc, the state won’t get that kind of money out of the tag but will pay less for wildlife damages, so yes it makes sense to the state, the market dictates what the landowner will receive.

Plus another bonus is it opens up closed off private to the public, not just those that buy the tag, what’s leasing thousands of acres for the public access worth?

From what some of these guys on here are saying I know they don’t understand how the e plus works in NM ! It’s one of the best things for elk hunters that NMG&F has ever done. i would hate to see all that great elk hunting land go private once the program is ended.

As far as a landowner making money off the LO tags I think it’s great, would you sell your pickup truck to a guy who offered you $5000 or a guy that offered you $15,000? same thing with the LO’s guys are more than willing to pay big bucks to hunt NM elk.

Most guys think a LO gets e plus tags because of damage the elk cause to their property but that’s not how it works. LO’s get tags because of the “meaningful benefit” the land gives the elk.

My buddy loses 50k annually to elk in hay. That doesn't count broken fences, stack raids, etc..

How many UW elk tags does he get?

I’ll just say first that I don’t know what the ideal solution is and I’m not against landowner compensation including tags in lieu of cash (which the NM govt isn’t usually rolling in). But in general damage value drives damage compensation. And there’s no mechanism to make sure that the monetary value of the tags remains commensurate with the damages and quality of elk habitat created

Even if area holds elk, that doesn’t mean it’s huntable. Just think about all the effort that goes into finding pockets of elk on public. Plenty of times a patch of land seems good but the elk don’t really hang out there. In other words if the land is a real honey hole, the LO probably takes the private only authorization
