BH 209

I called around Houston and had no luck. I’ve got a muzzy elk hunt next year, but can’t practice because I need to save my powder!

Seems like it's usually available in spring. Hopefully when the patent runs out next year we get some more options.

The shortage of BH209 was directly responsible for getting me into SML. So maybe not so bad in the end.

I still have to use BH209 to hunt because SML isn’t legal in my state for hunting. But that’s only a few shots a year.

But now there’s a shortage of 5744. Just ordered some N110 and hope it performs similarly.

I’ve never used anything but BH209 in my muzzleloader and I can honestly say that my barrel is just like new.
Bright and shining
No corrosion or pitting at all, and that is why I’ll never use anything else.
If it were me I’d be patient and pick some up when it’s available.

And with any other powder it would be the same as long as you clean appropriately

I used Pyrodex then 777 for many years in my TC Omega before I started using BH209. I've always meticulously cleaned right after shooting, and my bore still looks new.

Swabbing between shots is a pain, and it's nice not to feel like I'm on a clock after getting home from the range, so I agree that BH209 is superior. It would be great if there were some competition in that space.

I swab between shots anyway (Bestill method I think his name is?) and do a deep clean when I get home so it wont be a huge pain. For those that do this how was the poi shift? I’d likely just use 777 for positional work anyway so a small shift in poi and long range accuracy wouldn’t be a deal breaker.
