I think bump stocks are stupid, but these feel good bans do NOTHING to address the root cause; whatever the hell is going on in the brain of these people.

Also, I'm not sure how the legislation is worded, but there were whispers that it is something to the effect of, 'any device that increases the rate of fire'. That's scary wording considering there are a LOT of things that accomplish that task. New trigger? Banned. Lighter buffer? Banned. Reloading? Banned.

I'm not opposed to new legislation, but I believe it should be meaningful and make an actual difference. Address the actual problem.

Guns frequently fall into the wrong hands. If i wanted to go fly a plane, operate heavy machinery or drive a car I would need a license. Which puts some training and accountability towards my operation. If this piece isn't in place you have what happens in America with guns today. I don't like it anymore than the next guy but its the reality of the world we live in.

Seems more like a political move more than anything but politicians gonna' politician. Oddly the Florida house voted against a motion to consider a ban on the AR-15 but approved a resolution that declared porn a health risk. Back in the old days I suppose you could get a paper cut and now perhaps some sore tendons or ligaments on one hand so seems legit.

As a semi-outsider looking in, you guys need to be careful what you wish for. I think bump stocks are stupid too, and I would think most hunters do as well. But if you're not careful, you may well end up like we are here in Canada, where firearms get prohibited or restricted just based on what they look like. The restrictions are put in by people who have absolutely no knowledge of firearms, and no thought whatsoever is put in to how the restriction will affect people.

I use my AR with a 458 SOCOM upper for hunting all the time. It's a great round for big animals. I have a few AR's, but I don't own any bumpstocks. Like others have said, I would just get a binary trigger if I wanted to dump ammo for fun. Even as a reloader, wasting that much ammo is not cheap.

Luckily gun ownership is a right here in America thanks to our founding fathers and not a privilege like a car or a plane. Requiring a license or permit of any sort violates the rights of every American citizen.

Don't give an inch.

I never said anything about restrictions in owning them. How is any type of license a restriction on ownership? if you want to have big boy toys, it comes with big boy responsibility. 18 year old military recruits are exclusively trained and supervised. You don't get this type of over sight in the community selling assault rifles along side hammers at the hard ware to 18 years olds.

It creates a barrier to entry. That is why it's a violation.

That's precisely whats needed for military grade weapons. The gun companies have one interest in mind and that's money. Something to think about.

An ar-15 is not a military grade weapon. Please look up the history of the ar. You are simply judging a weapon based on its resemblance to an m4. A ruger 10-22 or a mini 14 can fire just as fast. Yet they aren't targeted because they don't look "scary".

Besides what would requiring a permit actually fix? Not a damn thing. Just another hoop for the average citizen to jump through.

Wow! have you ever watched people drive who have this special training to obtain a license. They get the training, then there license then forget how to drive, and all the rules that apply.

The root cause of theses mass shootings runs so much deeper than the ease of acquiring weapons. It isn't just one puzzle piece that has created it.
The degradation of human life, lack of impulse control, self worship, lack of respect, lack of accountability and the list goes on. For instance 250 million copies of Grand Theft Auto have been sold since 1992, does anyone except the ACLU and investors think that is healthy exposure for a child. Again a video game is not the sole reason but pile on violent movies, broken homes, glamorize drug abuse and sex. It has been no less than 20 years of training. Its a wonder society has not fallen further down. For the record I was wilder than a March Hare as a kid but society, schools and homes had boundaries then, those boundaries are a hell of a lot wider if they exist at all.

Sorry to the OP and the Mods if I have hijacked the thread or crossed some line............

I agree with this 100%. IL required you to have a FOID card to handle and purchase a weapon. It's been in place for years and as you can see; it's definitely reduced the amount of gun related deaths; esp in chicago (sarcasm)

Gun permits/restrictions only really seem to hinder the people that follow the laws anyway. It's not a solution to the problem. and it goes back to what Beendare said about addressing mental health issues first and foremost.

Nothing like taking marching orders from 16yr old kids. #forthegreatergood

Gotta love the bleeding hearts that think 16yr old have firm grasp on responsible decisions such as repealing a God given, constitutionally protected right. Seems legit.

As for the bump stocks, it all depends how the ban is written, but im guessing it will be done terribly.

I happen to have the great ability to deal with scumbags on a nightly basis, and the weirdest thing is they dont give a flying F about whats legal or not. I mean just look at what happened in Florida, how could it be? How in the world did he get a gun through the magical gun free zone?! Didnt he know they were banned?

But please dont panic buy

If I had a bump stock I would use it to hunt this boogie man I keep hearing about that is trying to take all my guns.
