It just goes to show that these politicians, reporters, the media, and most of America have absolutely lost any and all abilities to use reason and logic.

They want to ban a device that "simulates" automatic fire........while fully automatic fire weapons are still legal (and should be for everyone).

Regarding bump stocks, I don't think legislation will make much of a difference in "public safety". I do think it will show the gun control crowd that pro-gun crowd has been holding out on legislation they themselves think will help. I hope any legislation is exact.

Over the past several years, as I have pondered human nature and read into world history, I have become more firm in my belief that the 2nd amendment is crucial to a free state. It is certainly becoming an unpopular opinion but one that needs to be firmly defended and explained. Our culture has become too comfortable, we haven't had a war on our continent in a very long time. We as a whole don't believe, or won't allow ourselves to believe we would ever need to fall back on the 2nd amendment.

In my opinion the 2A crowd often times does a bad job of explaining why gun ownership is so important. It's not about hunting or enjoying target shooting. It's not even really about having a gun to protect yourself from burglars. It's about the people being able to form a resistance to tyranny. Solzhenitsyn writes in The Gulag Archipelago -

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? It should be required reading to the youth who find socialism so appealing and guns terrifying.


Unfortunately we have not seen the end of mass shootings but we can't risk the freedoms we have for the "security" of anyone, myself included.

I think it's a pretty worthless move. I'd have much preferred to see a ban on any rifle magazines with a capacity of more than 5 or 6 rounds. If we are going to protect these kids we need to approach this problem from all angles and, unfortunately, one of them needs to be the weapons that make them the most effective.

We should also change the definition of free speech to anything under 50 words. Freedom of speech is more dangerous than any gun will ever be. But I digress

Its not the instrument. Motivated evil people will find a way. Society needs to understand that, and be able to defend themselves from said evil. Me personally? I'll keep my scary black guns and 30rd mags.

Also keeping mind that a properly executed speed reload takes a second or 1.5. Limiting mag capacity isnt going to do much to slow the prepared, motivated evil-doer

Bans and restrictions empower criminals. It creates more soft targets like schools, malls, and movie theaters. But they make 16yr olds "feel" safer i suppose.....

Im ok with that but only for semi-auto rifles. I still think 18 is fine for bolt action, pump, and single shot guns. I dont know if it would have stopped this kid in parkland or not. He wouldnt have been able to buy them legally so maybe. Columbine shooters obtained them illegally too during an "assault weapons" ban. So who knows but im ok that.

I agree that deranged and alienated peopled will not let laws or morals get in their way of inflicting mass casualties. But how many people would have lost their lives that day if the 10 attackers would have been armed with AR's and bumpstocks? I can only speculate but I'm going to guess more than 29.

Get a binary trigger instead: more fun, more accurate, faster rate of fire(if you're looking to waste a ton of money on ammo)

It isn't just bump stocks, but any device that increases the rate of fire. That would include binary triggers.

I agree that deranged and alienated peopled will not let laws or morals get in their way of inflicting mass casualties. But how many people would have lost their lives that day if the 10 attackers would have been armed with AR's and bumpstocks? I can only speculate but I'm going to guess more than 29.

The bottom line is i dont believe in punishing law abiding people for the crimes of others. Maybe you do, but you might want to think long and deeply about the Pandora's box it opens.

This is a classic example of psychological projection. The folks who are scared of magazines and rifles know deep down they dont trust themselves with them, so how could they trust a stranger with them.

Oh I am right there with you. I was totally against the "Patriot" Act and the others that those on the right have tried to curtail. Between the two parties chipping away at them it wont be long and we wont have any left.

The difference is the vitriol and foaming at the mouth that becomes obvious of the lefts hatred for gun rights.

Lets ban commercial flights, truck rentals, kitchen knives, hammers, cell phones, guns, restaurants, and swimming. Id say that would be a good start on saving people's lives.

What is intellectually dishonest is claiming bans on magazines and bump stocks will make anyone safer. We had an assault weapons ban for 10yrs, it did NOTHING....per the DOJ's own study. Shocker.

I will say this, just watched some students speaking from the school where the shooting was, in 20 years I have a feeling our 2A will be in serious danger. I feel for what these students went through and do agree we need to give them a safe place but to see how brainwashed they are and all blame the NRA/guns for the violence. I’ve heard nothing from this generation about the deterioration of values, allowing metal detectors and armed guards to protect our kids, improved mental health systems within our country or many other society driven issues that attribute to a degraded mental state of our youth. All I hear are guns guns guns are to blame and they realize they may not be able to do anything now but that can change in the future.

Also all it will take is to have a majority on the Supreme Court to make this happen, that just doesn’t seem impossible.
