Best Vest

I have a Russel APXG2 Gale vest in MO Brush camo I really like. I put it over my Kryptek Dalibor II jacket an awful lot for day hunts or when not packing a puffy. I'm not sure you can buy one anymore though, I haven't seen that stuff advertised in a while.

I got a Sitka Jet stream vest off of Camo fire, love it. Blocks the wind. I wear it as an outer layer during September elk season and wear it as part of my mid layer for whitetail season.

What's the primary difference between the Vidar and the Vellus?

I don't have any experience with the vellus but the vidar has a soft shell outer where I believe the vellus is all fleece. Then they have a cadog vest which I was told by a rep on the phone is just a beefed up vidar, insulation wise.

I enjoy a good vest and have tried several. For insulation the super down is great but not the best if you're beating brush.

My favorite vests have windstopper qualities, which you'll get with Sitka or some of the Cabelas vests. I also have a heavier one that I wear instead of a jacket for some of my day hunts that I really enjoy.

I don't have time to find it but both those pieces have been reviewed by Jared and myself. Check our gear>clothing drop-down on homepage.

I have the Sitka Jetstream that was the only jacket/vest I took on an Alaska Cruise last year. The weather was rainy and cool the whole time. I never needed anything else. It seemed really thin and lite when I bought it, but it really blocked the wind (windstopper fabric), and it shed the rain with no problem. It kept me quite warm too.
