Looking for some suggestions on what would be the best optical performance for a pair of truck binos. Definitely open to buying used, with a price cap of $300. In the used market, this should get me Maven C.1, Vortex Viper Hd, etc. What brands/models should I consider?

Gen2 Viper HD 8x42 (model V200) are quite good, and the included case/harness is entirely usable. Impressive low light performance IME.

I've seen used ones listed at ~$300 in the classifieds here.

Underrated pick (in my super amateur opinion): Leupold BX4 10x42. Used Gen 1's (bumpy grip) go for around $250-300. Gen 2's (smooth grip) a tiny bit more ($300-350). I have both gens and they have similar glass. The price to glass quality is crazy. Gave a set to a friend as a gift and his entire family was blown away with how clear they were. Couldn't get them out of the kids hands. Thinking of gifting my Gen 1's to my brother.

Wait a few more weeks and you’ll likely see the Viper HD 10x42s for $300 at Cabelas/Bass Pro. That’s been their BF deal for 2 years now. For the money, very decent option.

Sierra Trading Post has refurb 10x42s at $299 and 8x42s at $329 right now. No model #s given, but the 409' FOV cited in their specs matches that of Gen2s (vs 341' for Gen1). I'd call and verify model #s to be sure.

Cabelas was still selling refurb Gen1 Vipers as of last year.

I second the other recommendations of Vortex Vipers 8/10x42 for the best optical performance in that price range. On the cheaper side, I keep a pair of Vortex Triumph 10x42s in my truck. They are cheap enough I don't worry about them being stolen. Optical performance seems similar to Diamondback's to my eye.
