I purchased a new rifle after thinking i found some BH209. There are a lot of scan sites out there so be wary! Does anyone know a good substitute or the best substitute for these CVA Paramount's?

Thanks for any input.

I just made the switch back to 777 myself just because of the pure cost savings. 1 lb of loose will almost get me 100 shots at 100 grain. For 30.00, opposed to 70.00 for 8 oz

Real black would be my choice. T7 is running $40 @ bigr locally. Can get better black powder for $25 a lb.

Where are you finding that?
It's available intermittently at a few different suppliers. graf's, powder valley, Buffaloarmsco, powderinc, travelers antiques, there's a couple other not very well known online shops too but can't remember their names. Ordering a decent quantity from powderinc is probably about as cheap as anywhere else online. I don't think they're the cheapest but that's who I ordered from this year

I use real black powder in my sidelock rifles but never tried it in an inline. I think you can get a lot more energy out of Triple 7 over black powder and I think cleaner burning however they're still dirty compared to BlackHorn. I've never used pellets because that stuff is expensive can't be used where I hunt with a muzzleloader.

From my understanding Triple 7 is one of the better powders but will never measure up to Blackhorn. I've seen it at smaller stores that don't have an online presence so maybe if you can make it to a small to medium town with Tractor Supply or something.

Real black doesn’t really compare to 777 unless you just like lots of smoke, fouling and lower velocity.

Here are some average muzzle velocities out of a .50 with a 300 grain bullet and 100 gr by volume charge of powder:

Black powder 2F 1601 fps

Triple Seven 2F 1746 fps

Triple Seven 3F 1819 fps

BH209 1904 fps

And…Blackhorn (and 777) is actually available online at the moment. Not sure where to find any Swiss.
