Best Spotting Scope for $120 Budget

I’ve got a budget of $120 for a spotting scope to use at the range. I’m hoping to be able to make out impacts on a steel gong at 200 yards which might be a stretch based on my price point.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a spotting scope that will be serviceable in the $100-$120 price range?

Assume you are shooting iron sights?? Paint your gong white and the impacts will be easily seen when the spray paint “chips away” (exposing the steel). Not sure what to recommend in that price range, but I would imagine anything will work if you can paint the gong

If $120 is a hard limit, I’d probably go with one of these used. I used one way back when on a bighorn sheep hunt, got the job done. Zoomed all the way to 47x the eye relief is rough with glasses, but it is ok at a bit under max zoom. Nothing in that price range is amazing, but you can use it to spot holes in paper even at that distance.

I have a Leupold Green Ring sequoia 15-45x. I’d sell for $150 shipped if you’re interested. I know it’s a little out of your budget but it’s a great inexpensive spotter. They sold for $280 new. And I’ll throw in a small tripod.

Konus makes some pretty decent glass for cheap. They can be very hit or miss, so buy from somewhere with a decent return policy. But the good ones have really surprised me.

I bought an Athalon Talos for $120 on sale at Midway to use at the range. I googled it and found it is now on sale at SWFA for $139 right now. It will work great for your use. https://www.swfa.com/athlon-20-60x80-talos-spotting-scope.html

I’d call Doug at cameralandny on this as well, he has had some great deals on these. I see on his add here it’s listed at $139.99 but if you call and let him know your a rockslide member and give him your budget he’ll get you a great deal even might get something better that is a demo.

Thanks for the offer. I’m looking for an angled eye piece but that is a good offer.

My son has a Zhumell refractor telescope with a 60mm objective. It has the prism that corrects the orientation of an object. I wonder if that will work? It just needs a new tripod.

I’ve been using a konus for a few years now. For the price I paid I feel it’s pretty good. I bought a vanguard endeavor 65mm and ended up returning it. It wasn’t that much better than the konus to my eyes that cost half the price. I’ll be upgrading this year, I can make you a deal on my konus if interested.
