Best spike tent for tall guys

I have a screaming deal on a brand new Kaitum 2GT in the classifieds in case you’ve missed it.

I saw it ADKHTR. I called my elk hunting partner to see what he thought. After much discussion and asking around, we decided we need a Kaitum 3GT. Thanks for the heads up!

Anytime!!! I like my space and have no idea how anyone fits 2 grown adults in most of these tents labeled 2P, I will say this though, if there ever was a tent I would consider sharing with one other person that was only labeled as a 2 person tent the Kaitum GT mite be it. The Kaitum is a monster of a tent, compared to my Nallo 2GT I used to have, wait until you get one and set it up, you will understand what I mean, site selection would be like trying to find a place to park a school bus, it’s more than I need for sure so down the road it goes.

I love my Tarptent Rainbow... I'm 6'1" and have tons of room... I carry a 5x7 silnylon tarp and string it above the tent if there is any weather... Never had an issue, just a piece of mind thing!

I’m 6’6” and my kifaru tut has plenty of room. Also is nice to pull the side walls for more sitting room. My mountain smith lt leaves plenty of room as well.

how bad do you NEED a tent?
what about a hammock with an oversized tarp cover?

I’m of similar height. Do you have enough sleep room? Your head or bag touch the fabric at all ?

A huge percentage of my nights in the backcountry are sleeping pad and bag with a tarp or tyvek sheets in a pinch.

If you “need” a shelter for tall guys there are several good options mentioned here already.

You don't always have tons of spiders and such on you just using a tyvek sheet? I tried a few different times to just throw my pad down and I constantly had bugs all over me here in Az. I know almost always take a shelter simply for bugs. I think the black river officially ruined me when I slept on the ground and when rolling up my pad the next day, there was 5 or 6 scorpions under it and when I got home, I found one of those little basterds in my clothes bag with a bunch of babies on her back. I HATE SCORPIONS! haha. Damn things have stung me twice.

I haven’t had issues with bugs and the like. Down south the grasshoppers can get annoying. Especially when you don’t pay attention and sleep under the tree they were nesting and living in. I’m still finding them in the horses hay stacks here at home since then.

Most of my heavy backpacking years were in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Northern California. Other than random snow showers and the typical afternoon thunderstorms at higher elevation there was minimal drama. It was very rare that we carried tents or shelters in those years.

My sons and I have spent some significant time up in the mountains here in AZ and it’s very similar. No drama without shelters.

I ran it with myself (6’5 270) and another guy (6’ 215) with full gear/stove with room to spare. No my head and bag do not touch. I don’t like being cramped which is why I switched to this set up with Argali. Watch the YouTube video and you can see the amount of space.

Edit: I might fabricate my own full floor with a heat treated spot for the stove.
