Best Season Ever

We are down to our last week of deer season in Virginia and I can safely say that this was the best deer season ever for me, my son and my dad. I had two main goals for the year. I wanted to get my son his first deer and I wanted to kill a decent buck on the mountain (National Forest). The first box was checked quickly on opening day of archery season when my son got his first deer, a spike with a crossbow. A few days later, my dad scored with his best archery buck ever. A little later on in archery season, I killed my best buck ever, an 8 point that scored right at 142". This made three generations that killed a buck in the first three weeks of archery season. The season could have ended right there, but we were just getting started. Opening day of muzzleloader, Dad killed a huge 6 point that was 18" inside. A few days later, my son scored a doe for his second deer. Then in the second week of muzzleloader, I completed my number two goal of the season, and killed a nice 9 point on National Forest. Jumping forward a week and now in to rifle season, Dad and I doubled up on National Forest with a 8 and 10 point. I can't imagine ever having another year like this, but I look forward to trying.

That is so awesome! Always great when a plan comes together and nothing can beat spending time with people you love. Especially when it’s during hunting season! Like you said it’ll be a tough one to beat but that will just be a bonus to the real success every future season, getting out there with the guys and hunting. All that really matters. Congrats on a banner season and here is to more to come!

That's awesome. VA National forest is tough. I used to hunt there about 20 years ago. I'll bet you were just as excited or more to see your son kill that buck than than you were to kill that monster.
