Best Ride on Lawn Mower

I have a Bobcat zero turn that is built like a tank. My neighbors all bought Husqvarna's around the same time and they are all on their second mower. With mower's you get what you pay for.

All I do is edge and trim now. Sold my zero turn. Segway is supposed to launch a mapping one soon that will mow stripes rather than random bouncing.

Any zero turn. Mine is a John deer just because I got it for cheap. Cut mowing time in half. The one flaw is it also turned mowing into not a drinking sport, which in turn really lost my interest in mowing. It is possible to hold a beer while flying through the yard at Mach mowing just not easy.

This ^. That kind of pasture your into compact tractor territory. 60” deck cruising you can mow an acre pretty fast. Mine also has a beer holder and I rigged a second to the ROPS bar. ROPS bar can also be used for gun holder for shooting gophers or pigeons when out and about.

I actually just sold my Toro timecutter 50 zero turn, it was a nice mower and I'd recommend it. No need for it now though.

I have 3 acres to mow as well. Bought a Ferris 3100. 36 HP and 61 inch deck. I also use my Dad's Kubota ZTR from time to time. Using my Dad's Kubota REALLY makes me appreciate the suspension on the Ferris. If you have a Ferris dealer nearby I'd recommend giving them a shot.

We live on 14 and my wife mows the acreage ~2.5-3 acres. If you don't already own one, you may want to consider a compact tractor with a belly or finish mower. That way you have one tool that can do WAAAAAY more jobs than a zero turn. I bought a used 2004 Kubota B2410 with 4wd, hydrostat, loader, and 60" deck in 2009. It has been an absolute workhorse with zero issues. That little 3 cylinder diesel has done everything and more for me. With a little over 20 PTO HP, I also run a 60" 3 point tiller for my garden and food plots, and a 72" bush hog for mowing trails in switch grass and misc. maintenance at our hunting place. It also pulls a 15' 1956 IH disc effortlessly for food plot prep. I'd hate to guess how many tons of snow I've moved with the loader as well.

The tractor has been paid off for a number of years now and we've been looking at the mid-grade Toro zero turns and the Ferris zero turns due to the suspension. Right now the only suspension we have from the tractor comes from the turf tires and seat.

Whatever you do, I would definitely go with zero turn. I'm on about 2 acres, and I have a John Deere x350 lawn tractor. I definitely wish I would've gone with the zero turn now just to save time and to get into tight spots.

I have a scag 52"...used to take me 2 hrs on a sit on to mow 3 acres..now it takes me 45 min...thats 75 more minutes to sit on the porch and drink beer....life is all about perspective.

If you zero turn get one with a suspension seat....

I have a Kubota commercial model, beats me to death but 7 years on 7 acres once a week for 5 months and it hasn’t had a hiccup.

Really like my smaller hustler. I went 42" but only mowed a bit less than an acre when I bought it. 21 horse kawasaki is the bomb.... I beat the crap out of the deck and since it is fabbed it just scratches the paint. Only thing I have to watch is tire pressure other than normal maint.

Another vote for Hustler zero turn. I bought a Raptor XD 54" last year for 1.25 acres, the ride is super comfortable. I wash it off with a power washer weekly and blow the filter out every use, in the summer I usually mow 2x weekly. It just hit 50 hours yesterday so I did all the maintenance - oil, fuel filter, spark plugs, grease, air filter. Maintenance was a piece of cake. I highly recommend it!

I’ve got nothing to add relevant to the discussion of mowers, but maintaining my own lawn is kind of obsession/hobby.

Some of the lawns and effort that people put into maintaining them make me and my obsessive interest look like an amateur.

Some of the lawns and effort that people put into maintaining them make me and my obsessive interest look like an amateur.

With as much as we have to mow, and the fact that we live out in the country without any neighbors for over a mile, if its green we'll take it excluding thistles. I know people in the city hate dandelions, but they are a native species and attract a ton of pollinators and goldfinches (IA state bird). You can also eat them and turn them into wine.
