There are many roads that lead to Rome.
What say you guys when your hunting, do you have the time to calculate MOA or do you prefer zplex or BHR type of reticle...of course don't forget CDS duplex..
Let's hear it!

After messing around with a lot of different ones, I’m realizing that I don’t need much for 95% of the hunting I do, I’ve decided I like a nice clean plain Jane reticle but still having the ability to dial out for the occasional 400yd shot. I’ve gone with a night force force Plex illuminated reticle and I’m happy with it for now. Prior to that I was using the leupold vx5hd standerdnplex reticle with the CDS dial but I wanted something more reliable so I grabbed an SHV.

If it’s a scope I plan to dial more often, I like the standard mil dolor scopes from SWFA. I have one on my tikka 6.5 and it’s perfect for what I like to do with that rifle.

Moa or mil dot front focal plane. Easy peasy! If you know the dope, dial and shoot. Front focal plane makes things so much easier!

I prefer a simple duplex reticle. I don't like all the clutter between my eye and the target, and I zero for MPBR and hold hair.

Shooting known-size targets and variable distances with time to setup and shoot, I prefer a mildot FFP. But that isn't hunting, that's sniping.

It's a great reminder bitbckt..I forget there is a difference between hunting and sniping.. great point

Question:
How far out is the CDS accurate to?

Personally I think Leupold Firedot Wind-Plex is the ideal reticle for a hunting rig. I personally don't want or need a Christmas tree type for my huntng rifles. Just some 1 MOA horizontal marks on the main crosshair for wind, anything over 350 yards I'm going to dial elevation. It's a shame they almost don't even offer it anymore. The TMOA is probably their next best thing for me, in illuminated.

I'll lead with, whoever designed the nikon bdc never shot a rifle.

I like quick to aquire reticle without a bunch of crap to weed through. It's tough to beat a mildot. You get measuring potential and holdover marks....without the fluff.

Reticles with a bunch of. 01 moa or mil marks get lost in low light really easy....and even though I own several illuminated versions, I never take the time to light them up as watching a shooter walk off is not gonna let me sleep well.

Hash reticle on a target gun, mildot or plex on a hunting gun.

I like the simplicity of the Vortex's BDC. Just small tick marks on the vertical and horizontal posts. That's all need for 500 and in. If a critter is any further, I'm going to need to get closer.
