No. Back tension is a technique that can be used with any category of release aid.

The term "back tension" is constantly misused and creates a lot of confusion.

For example, I shoot back tension with my index trigger.

I can also shoot that trigger in a command technique.

One can certainly also command a hinge or tension activated release, or shoot them back tension.

Note: Back tension is not the only way to achieve a surprise release, but it's probably the most common.
Semantics. Tension activated release is fine if that makes u feel warm and fuzzy. Everyone knew exactly what I was talking about. I'm getting a Silverback or evolution. Just need to see if I can find a sb

Would you agree with Resistance Activated Release? Tension Activated Release? Force Activated Release?

The hardest part of engineering is getting everyone to agree on terminology.

No matter how you classify the release. It's has the goal of teaching a release by pulling through the shot preferably through the use of back tension.

Just got your bow, already an expert... Have you ever heard of Archery Talk? You'll find many similar people there.

It only matters in that people confuse a technique of execution for a style of release aid.

Constantly.

It creates tremendous confusion within archery.

Techniques of shot execution:
Command
Surprise

Methods of Surprise shot execution:
Back tension
Yield
Push/Pull
Etc... ( and endless combinations)

Styles of mechanical release aid:
Index trigger
Thumb button
Hinge
Resistance or Tension Activated

Its not a perfect breakdown, but one can easily see how describing a backtension release aid creates confusion.

Any expert? What have I said that in any way says anything similar. I see you are the sensitive type. John dudley calls the silver back a tension release. So I'll stick with that. Have a good one.

A tension release or tension activated release is correct.

Do you see how that is different and distinct from the term back tension?

Arguing with someone who knows more than you do is not an efficient way of learning. Remember, you asked the question, not me.

Feel free to point out where I argued. Like I said sensitive. I also never said back tension. And what was my question anyways, maybe go back for another look.

Just ignore him. He wants to be "right." It's really pointless anyways, because at some point you'll probably try them all and make you own decision as to which style works best. Probably find that each release has its application where it excels and a bunch of keyboard warriors aren't going to make that determination for you.

Ive 100% seen this. Seems like which realease is a constant ongoing search for many people. I'll dive in with a Carter evolution or nock on sb if I can find one and start my journey. :)

whoah!

To the OP, I don’t think you can go wrong with a silverback or an evolution, or any other tension activated release. My brother is just now beginning his archery addiction, I’ve started him on an evolution.
I disagree with the notion that it will create panic, provided you manage your expectations and commit to learning properly.
Take your sight off your bow, shoot at 3yds until you can feel the shot and execute 4-8 seconds after you anchor, on a consistent basis.
As soon as you feel like you are good enough to shoot with your sight on, shoot another 500 arrows without the sight, then start at 10 yards with a sight and gradually work yourself back.
You’ll do just fine.

I have enjoyed my spot hog wise guy. That being said, next one might be a Carter based on how much people like theirs

I shoot a wise guy, and a trufire hardcore.
I’m surprised the recommended release on here is to go right to hinge. I get the concept of building proper form, but is t it a good idea to get familiar and build some confidence with a basic trigger first?
Maybe that’s just me not knowing better…

scott ascent (hinge) . if you are serious about being the best archer you can be, no matter if your a beginner or elite puncher. learn to shoot a hinge properly. you have to develop your own shot process and thats your deal, but as far as a release being the “best” for a beginner(or intermediate, or advanced) a hinge will expose faults in your form more readily than other styles of release and elevate your accuracy when executed correctly. triggers develop bad habits in all humans. for some who have a more determined psychology they make it work, but for me and most mortals the hinge is the only way i can guarantee that EVERY shot i execute is the best shot i am capable of. i was told multiple times when i started that a hinge was the way and it took me three years of ups and downs to realize that they were right.

I went from an index release to a Carter Wise Choice last year and really like it. Have not had a chance to hunt with it though, great for 3D shoots.
