I am new here but in very deep on other classifieds forums. I just now became aware of rokslide and am loving it. I wish there was a way of having cross forum "cred". I also concur with goods and services, and passing on the low ballers.

And then, similar to above, the ones that use greetings of "hey, bruther". They usually float in and out of the sale, asking if I can hold it until the next pay check. I envision dealing with the bearded lone survivor wanna be with the ever present tan backpack, ready to be picked up by covert helicopter at any moment.

You can ask for a photo with the current date and your name on paper in the picture to be sure they actually have the item

Doing this works well. I’ve had success doing this on multiple sites.

I wouldn’t consider questions on use or performance above - always happy to answer those, send extra photos, etc.

But PayPal has put sellers in a bind with G&S now with sending 1099s.

Looks like I might have lost a sale on another board this morning because of that. A guy made an offer that I was willing to accept. I hadn't offered G&S as an acceptable payment. He was willing to pay the fees, but on top of losing because of his offer, I'd lose even more on taxes.

Really wish I had enough $$$$$ to start up my own pay service.

The way I understand it, if you have multiple ads you'd be fine. $600 per sale is the threshold.

Also if you're selling something for the same or less than you bought it the reporting (if any) of the proceeds generally doesn't really 'do' anything to your taxes.

If you sell an item for less than you paid for it then you don't get taxed on it, but you have to provide documentation showing what you paid and what you sold it for.

Correct. But if you don't have the paper trail, you're going to get hit for the full sale price.

It's like having a garage sale, and they want you to pay taxes on the proceeds. WTH does that? Who has original receipts for that kind of stuff, even though virtually everything is sold at a loss?

I’m sort of in the same boat. I’ve been off and on here for a few years but have not done anything since they changed the format. I do a lot of trading/selling on traditional archery sites and agree with the comments above that Paypal is probably the best route to go…

Nope. The first time you get paid, PP will make you fill out an online form, basically requiring that you give them your tax ID, which for an individual is your SSN.
after that, if you have any G&S payments and your cumulative total adds up to over $600 for the year, you will get a 1099.

That is the way I had read it as well. At least in selling my spotting scope, I bought it with PayPal and can show that I didn't make money, so it shouldn't be a big deal, but wondered if I could skirt around the total amount deal. Thank you!
