Hi guys,

I want to get a light for my glock 20 What good out there? My wife has a treamlight on her glock 43 and it sort of sucks, its been back 2 times now for repair so I dont really want a streamlight.

Thanks.

What Streamlight?

I have a couple TLR-1's with thousands of rounds, both rifle and pistol, with zero problems.

I've had a Viridian on a Beretta for about 5 years and it's been great.

Surprised by your problems with Streamlights. I retired in 2011 most of the weapons light systems I purchased for the pd are still in use. Streamlights, Hope your problem is isolated. Certainly understand your reservations. Sorry can’t help with more current research. All I have are Streamlights.

Stream light tlr1 is a solid choice. For more $$ i would go sure fire. X300 or xc1. I have and use both and have never had an issue. You can get deals on last generation stuff. 1000 lumens is cool but 300 is plenty for most pistol distances and saves $$ and batteries.

Make sure you can find a holster regardless. Some of the off the run lights are hard to fit in a holster.

I have the Streamlight TLR! and a Flight mini rechargeable. I like both.

I prefer the size and recharge of the O light mini ...but the switch is pretty stiff...takes a bit of getting used to and some guys flat out don't like it.

The surefire, inforce, and atreamlights all have different methods for illumination; button/paddle etc.
I'd figure out what intuitively makes sense to you and let that guide your decision.
I'm in the group of TLR1 success stories in my handful of LE years.

Let’s take this one thing at a time.

Your wife runs a stream light on a non railed pistol which means she’s probably using the TLR6. The compact lights have alway been plagued by problems regardless of manufacturer, I wouldn’t write streamlight off just yet.

The only 2 rail mounted PLs that any serious instructors (keep in mind they see hundreds/thousands come through classes every year) are SF X300U and Streamlight TLR-1, in that order.

As far as buying latest gens with the most output, you want to get the one with the most output you can. Those that will tell you otherwise have never tried IDing what’s making the noise 100yds outside your tent in a middle of a pitch black night in the woods.

My 2 cents.

had terrible luck with my inforce and had to replace it twice. The second time I just broke down and bought a Surefire. Not a single issue with it in three years in any weather condition

Have a TLR7 with a couple thousand rounds on it. I don’t like the controls but I’ve heard Streamlight has upgraded a newer version.

For Christmas I got an O Light Valkyrie Pro which I really like so far. It is very bright and the controls are good. It is usb rechargeable which almost if not all of my hunting gear is usb rechargeable now. Just need to get a few hundred more rounds on it to feel comfortable with the reliability.

I run the Surefire xh30 with the masterfire holster. It's a pretty slick setup.

I have had a Streamlight TLR2 for probably over 15 years with zero issues. Ran it on my Glock 21 for work and it's now on an AR. I would make a suggestion on any Tac light on a pistol. Cover the lens with masking tape or take it off when practicing unless you need it (Night shooting). Saves the lens from getting pitted.

Great tip on the tape.

Have not had an issue with pitting on mine but they do catch some muzzle blast. For me, Carbon can be a pain in the ass to clean. If you swab the lens with some oil enough to leave a thin coat they wipe clean very easily.

Surefire is the best and most durable, stream light comes in second being a little less durable. Wouldn’t consider anything else. SF X300 ultra or SL tlr 1 HL.

I have an Inforce on my Glock 19 and like it enough I'm getting one for my Glock 20 now too. I only have a few hundred rounds through it, but check the light every morning before I holster it and haven't had any issues yet. It was also 1/3 of the price of the surefire. The only thing the surefire has is a slightly brighter light. But for inside a room or close quarters in the woods, the Inforce does just fine.
