Best over under in the 1k range

If you are not married to an OU - the benelli UL semi auto with the carbon fiber rail is amazing. You can get those used for a decent price. Just thought I would throw that out there. One of my other buddies runs one of those in 20ga. So light it feels like a toy gun.
I agree completely; I love my Benelli ultra-light semi-automatic.

Those Japanese made SKB's were a good gun, and kind of underrated on the used market. Might be the OP's best bet for a good $1K 20 gauge. I'd sure buy one at that price. The only down side is I don't believe SKB provides parts for the Japan produced guns anymore.
The SKB plant in Japan is shut down. The SKB guns in the US are made in Turkey now, so I wouldn’t think so. Weatherby may still repair the guns, but I am not sure on that.
I was surprised of how nice the gun was when we gave it to my buddy, it is a shame they aren’t made anymore.

There is a gun pawn shop in springfield missouri. You'll have to Google it, but they have a lot of guns. You can always check there.

New? Franchi Instinct, or Instinct SL is the bottom price I would look at. Anything priced lower than that is going to be a quality compromise. Skip the Turkish guns.
Used? Browning or Beretta.

Maybe one of you guys have something tucked away in your safe that you want to sell me?
I came across a 12 gauge that is in your price range. If you are flexible in gauge send me a pm and I can forward you the link.

Another one to consider is the benelli montafeltro in 20 gauge. My wife couldn’t hit hardly anything with 3-4 other shotguns but does pretty good with it. Extremely light, low recoil
