Best "old" 4x4 truck for hunting? $5k range.

You can buy anything you want if money isn’t an option. As soon as you start putting restrictions on things you should be more open to ideas. If I’m looking for a beater hunting truck around the farm and county, being as Inhave a reliable daily driver, I would not look past a Japanese k truck for value, reliability and modification-ability
 
OBS Ford F150 SB with a 300 6 cylinder and an auto with 33’s/35’s.
Put a cap on the back, plywood bed above the fender wells with drawers for hunting stuff underneath.

If you're okay with it being tiny, the first generation colorado and canyon are surprisingly tough little trucks. The 4cyl especially can be found real cheap.

First, the 1st Gen Colorado and Canyon were not 4 cylinders they were 5 Cylinder engines.

Second, they were junk, engine issues, which is why they changed the power train.

Third, good luck finding one still on the road, see above.

If you are talking mid size trucks:

Toyota Truck or Tacoma
Older Nissan hardbody
Older Rangers

Those would be the ones to look for, be particular in how they were maintained but there isn’t any other small trucks I would consider for your needs.

The mans buying $5k pickups preferably american made. That is rolling the dice. I wouldnt be scared of a 5.4/v10 for what he's doing
Ad says V8 triton and that was the 5.4 in 2010. 6.2 didn't come until '11

And you're not wrong, in keeping with that topic I'd personally recommend a 2000-2007 Silverado or Sierra 2500hd or 3500hd. 6.0 LS V8 and 4l80e transmission is a reliable as it gets for American trucks as long as the rust hasn't gotten to the rest of the truck.

Mostly agree.

Around here broncos are usually more expensive and less room to sleep in the back.

I also like being able to separate gas cans/chainsaws/other fluids from the cab.

I’m my experience they stink for ever when they inevitably spill. 😁

They came in I4, I5 and V8.

The stick shift I4 I had as a work truck was great.
