Best "old" 4x4 truck for hunting? $5k range.

This is a 5.4 truck, I would not roll those dice. The reliable 6.2 started in 2011 in the super duties.

You can buy anything you want if money isn’t an option. As soon as you start putting restrictions on things you should be more open to ideas. If I’m looking for a beater hunting truck around the farm and county, being as Inhave a reliable daily driver, I would not look past a Japanese k truck for value, reliability and modification-ability

OBS Ford F150 SB with a 300 6 cylinder and an auto with 33’s/35’s.
Put a cap on the back, plywood bed above the fender wells with drawers for hunting stuff underneath.

If you're okay with it being tiny, the first generation colorado and canyon are surprisingly tough little trucks. The 4cyl especially can be found real cheap.

First, the 1st Gen Colorado and Canyon were not 4 cylinders they were 5 Cylinder engines.

Second, they were junk, engine issues, which is why they changed the power train.

Third, good luck finding one still on the road, see above.

If you are talking mid size trucks:

Toyota Truck or Tacoma
Older Nissan hardbody
Older Rangers

Those would be the ones to look for, be particular in how they were maintained but there isn’t any other small trucks I would consider for your needs.

Ad says V8 triton and that was the 5.4 in 2010. 6.2 didn't come until '11

And you're not wrong, in keeping with that topic I'd personally recommend a 2000-2007 Silverado or Sierra 2500hd or 3500hd. 6.0 LS V8 and 4l80e transmission is a reliable as it gets for American trucks as long as the rust hasn't gotten to the rest of the truck.

Mostly agree.

Around here broncos are usually more expensive and less room to sleep in the back.

I also like being able to separate gas cans/chainsaws/other fluids from the cab.

I’m my experience they stink for ever when they inevitably spill.

Tundra with somewhere between 200-240k miles shouldn't be too far out of reach and have more American input than anything but Fords.

No........I don't fit in the Tacoma's. They really screwed them up. My '89 is the extracab and my seat goes a long ways back. I really wanted a Tacoma to replace this one some day, but they shortened the roof, the windshield, the windows, and the seat doesn't go as far back as mine. So had to get the Tundra. But it won't/can't replace the '89. If they offered a brand new one identical to mine (made in Japan), I'd buy one today without hesitation.

Cab shape is different in the tacomas for sure. Bumped my head a few times getting in my 04, never did that in my 87. Learned to slide in and never had that issue again. Do wish I'da picked up an extra cab. Single cab gets a bit old after a while

Suzuki samurai, although they are starting to get pricy,

Yj series wranglers are the cheaper options

Ford bronco II aren’t super expensive at all

I have been eyeing the Suzukis forever. The get around on small roads really good. Easy to haul on a trailer. Obviously not what OP is looking for. I saw a cheap Geo tracker the other day and was thinking Hmmmm ?
