Went with the VA-5. So far seems good. Haven’t taking it out too much. Just to the shooting range. It seems to tilt very smooth and great control. The pan doesn’t seem as refined as the tilt. But let me get it out in the field and do some glassing and I’ll report back in. Construction seems solid!

I'm looking for something to top a Slik CF-522 and had all but settled on the S2 until I started looking around this and other forums. How're you liking your VA-5?

I’ve only taken it glassing half a dozen times since I got it. But that will be changing shortly.

My thoughts so far, are that it is indeed super smooth and built great. But seems a bit heavy if you’re backpacking in far. Not sure if you can find the same thing in a lighter option? But I’ll run it this year and see how I feel.

I also miss my ball joint when I throw my binos on the pan head.

Thanks!

I just bought a Monfrotto Befree Live head off eBay on impulse. At $76.41 out the door with the coupon shared elsewhere, it seemed like too good of a deal to pass up. There are a couple of these left if anyone else is interested. The discount code I used was PREGAME15.
