Best (least frustrating) Target to use with Outserts

As the title says. I was wondering what you guys who use outserts have had good success with. I just got my new bow and am shooting VAPs with Firenock Aero Outserts. The two bag targets i have shot have been ridiculously hard to pull out of the bag. It seems like the felt in the bag is catching on the outsert. It's already pulled three outserts (which were epoxied) off of the arrows. Any ideas on what works best for a target?

thanks,

Jake

Thanks for the tip. The field tips are slightly smaller diameter. I think it's the little lip on the ousterts.

Are you cleaning everything with denatured alcohol? I use 24-hour epoxy vs. 5-minute as is seems to hold better. No outsert experience though.

I'm using a Spyder Web target with Aero Outserts with great results. I've also shot the same arrows into a Rinoblock with broadheads and they're starting to pull nicely. The broadhead target is new so the arrows are tough to pull but the center is starting to loosen up and I haven't lost an insert.

I'm shooting through most areas of my 3 year old Pacific Bow Butt bales and ruining fletches so I've got a new target on order from them for my outdoor range.

Also you should be using acetone to clean the shafts and inserts along with using 24 hour epoxy....

I used laquer thinner which may be part of the problem of them coming off. But they are still crazy tough to pull out of my bag target. I'll have to check out some of the options you guys are bringing up.

Lacquer thinner is likely leaving residue and the cause for inserts coming loose. When the shaft is cut and ends squared up I wipe the entire shaft down with denatured alcohol to get the entire thing clean. Then before gluing on the outsert I dip the tip of the arrow in acetone for a few seconds (no more than 5) and let it air dry. I've had acetone ruin carbon shafts by soaking them in it for an extended period so I limit the dip time. I let the outserts soak for a while since the acetone won't damage them, let them air dry and the epoxy them together.

Exactly. Also, the longer the epoxy takes to setup, the stronger it is. It's a trade off / inverse relationship. Time/strength

I used the only 24 hour epoxy. I was curious about the hot melt too. The manuf. recommends epoxy. Any experience. How well do they stay on because they have been really hard to pull out of targets.

I dont know about outserts, but any foam target is a royal pain the ass to pull Easton Epic or Axis arrows out of!

If you havent tried it yet, try the AAE Max Impact glue. I used to use regular old gel super glue when I shot Carbon Express arrows with the knurled inserts, but started having problems with inserts pulling out when I switched to Easton arrows and inserts. Been using the Max Impact glue two years now with good results.

Or switch to a bag. I dont shoot foam at all unless im shooting broadheads or 3D. Bag targets all the way for general shooting.

I have a bag which was great until I got the ousterts. The full in this bag is strips of felt and they tangle around the outsert and plug into the next one and become nearly impossible to pull out. I know not all bags are the same fill but the two I've tried have been ridiculously tough to get arrows out of. Foam at the shop was tough but doable. I even punched one through a soft spot in the target and through the rubber back stop. That one was a pain to pull but it came out in tact. I will use a different cleaner next time but still need to find a different target.

Thanks for the replies.
