Best Hands Free Rifle Carrier, By Jake Lamphier

Good review. It points out the good and the negatives of each system. It’s also funny how we prioritize things. I hunt where bears charging isn’t a likely thing. Or considered a possibility. So, I chose the gun bearer because on the really steep inclines, I’m putting the gun in a pack pocket and strapped to the bag/frame. No worries about my barrel.

Definitely an issue for speed with several carriers if you wanted really quick access during a bear encounter. But that is probably even true with a shoulder sling if not routinely practiced. A rifle may not be a first choice for this type of fast action, close encounter (assuming it happens in thick brush or trees). Just a thought.
