Best gun case for airlines

Flying out west this year and want to carry my rifle and a handgun in the case to be checked with the airline. What’s the best one for this? Currently looking at Pelican Storm cases but want to make sure I buy once, cry once.

Other than size, weight, and price; pelicans are very nice cases. I own several and they are what I would buy if looking for a case today.

There are some cheaper nock offs that a few friends have and they are happy with them. I cannot remember the brand.

Pelican or SKB. My SKB has serviced many Airlines including a trip to Africa. My Pelican has done just as well. Its lighter then my SKB but my SKB is also a double gun.

Any ATA rated case will do. The airlines managed to mangle my big SKB case (was not supposed to be placed on a conveyor, it was a hand carry only item) but SKB handed me a new one just like that.

I tend to think pelican is the gold standard for fire arms transport. They are pricey, heavy and bulky though. I have and use one on occasion. i also use an SKB iseries and a regular skb double gun. Some folks here are fond of using clothing and soft gear instead of the foam padding. Be careful not to make the loaded case over the 50# limit for your airline.

I have SKB single cases i-series, and Boyt for plastic cases. I also have a Kalispel take down case. The Kalispel is the gold standard. 1/8" welded aluminum. My father uses a Pelican 1750. No issues with any of them on many trips both foreign and domestic.

Pelican 1750 and don’t look back. The great part is being able to customize the foam to carry exactly the kit I want. It can certainly fit your rifle, pistol and all accessories, and still stay under 50 lbs.

I use SKB for a combo bow-gun case and bow case.

Pelican’s Storm product line is really good. I have one for rifle and a couple sizes for pistol. The rifle is model IM3300 I believe. It’ll take two scopes rifles and a pistol or two, if you position things right. Worst part is buying new foam when you have a need to reconfigure.

Another vote for Pelican. Some of the Pelican copy cats are really good as well.

I have both SKB and Pelican. My SKB is an older (early 2000,s) and my pelican is a current design. The SKB is a great case but I think the pelican is a better case and would buy that one over the newer SKB. I feel the latching system on the pelican is more gorilla proof.

I fly several times a year with firearms for shooting competition and the Pelican cases are the standard for the people who I compete with (myself included)
