Lets discuss best elk bullet and results

There many threads about this bullet or that but don't see a collective. Seeing as many states are opening up bullet possibility

Ive used great plains on 2 bulls

Eldx?
Elr?
Platinum?
Parkers?
Etc, etc

After killing a pile of bulls and cows with a muzzy, my recommendation is a heavy lead conical (400-600 gr) or a proven jacketed bullet in a sabot: 300 gr Swift A-Frame or Nosler Partition, 300 or 400 gr Barnes Original, or a Barnes (or Thor-Branded) 300 gr copper.

Great advice!

@ElDiablito have you shot any animals with the hornady 340 eld-x? curious on your thoughts on why you'd lean more towards a less frangible bullet?

I smoked a cow with the 295 gr. bore drivers two seasons ago. Worked pretty dang good but also the first and only animal I've killed with a muzzleloader to date so I'd defer to those with more experience.

I've always had a hard time getting solid copper bullets to group out of my muzzie and the Hornady's are stupid accurate.

At short muzzy ranges - say under 250 yards, I prefer a tougher bullet. I like two holes if possible. For longer range shots, I’d consider a more frangible bullet like the ELDX. I have shot them but not used them hunting yet. I did kill a big old bull in NV a couple years ago at 280 yards with a 327 gr Parker Black Max. Worked very well, but it was open country and I was anticipating shots out to 400+ yards.

I’ve taken 5 bulls from 300-460 yards with my paramount pro. Shooting 285 gr Power Belt ELR’s. They’ve been devastating.
