Best Digitial Camera?

I've owned and used several different kinds of cameras (micro 4/3, APS-C, Full Frame) and for the best back country system I've settled on the Olympus OMD EM1. This bad boy is bombproof and isn't even close to the weight or size of a DSLR. The image quality isn't quite FF but with the new Sony sensors and no anti aliasing filter the EM1 at 16mp will beat almost all APS-C cameras. I can print insanely great pics up to 13"x19" and extremely good to sizes much larger then that. The lens available for the EM1 are great and offer almost any range and quality your looking at using. I'm using the Pro 12-40/f2.8. But for back country I take the 17/1.8 and I'm ordering the new 25/1.8.

If you can afford one of these new cameras I highly recommend it and I will guarantee your pics will look better and you will extremely happy

By far, the best camera I've come across for backpacking is the Canon EOS M. I've been a T1 DLSR user for years, mostly because I just can't seem to break the damn thing, but when I saw the size of the EOS M I had to look twice. The body is smaller than most point and shoots, and yet you still get the quality of optical zoom lenses. Total weight with the 18-55 kit lens is 18 ounces. I find the 18-55 perfect for back country photos, but they also make an adapter to use with standard Canon lenses. When I was doing a little research into the camera before purchasing, I read somewhere that its development began as the T4 and somewhere along the line they decided to make it a compact mirrorless. Sensors and image quality are amazing for this little camera, and video isn't too bad either. It is also wireless remote compatible. If you are used to a standard DSLR the all touch screen controls are a bit cumbersome to learn, but more than worth the trouble for the size and image quality. I'm not sure what the retail is now, but I got mine on sale when the came down to $350. At that price, its hard not to get one.

Here are just a few of the photos I took with it since purchasing about 8 months ago through as recently as this morning.

i'm trying to jump into a m43 lumix gh3. Apparently has pro level video, and weather proof body, two things big on my criteria. BUT my budget for a body and lens is $1000, maybe a bit more. I'm new to this stuff and not a pro level anything... yet

G6?? gx7(so small!!)?? NEX6?? Again video is very important to me(but not pro level...well maybe), and AFFORDABLE lenses!! :) Nex3 at my costco for $350 w kit lens...

What say you guys??

I think a M4/3 system would be a good fit for your uses.

The Nikon 1 AW1 would be a good fit also. It is a smaller sensor, but image quality is still pretty good and video is outstanding. It is also not only weather sealed, but totally waterproof, and fits into your price range.
