Beat me to it but it’s a pretty good deal too.

Have my mind pretty much made up to grab a tikka 223 for a trainer, unfortunately caliber minimums will keep me from using it from hunting in most states I typically hunt in. I am a little torn between the T3X 16" and the Roughtech Ranch. If my math is right there would be an approximate $300 difference after I put a rail, thread, and adapter on the standard T3. Other than the extra traction on the Roughtech, the fluted barrel and bolt are just aesthetics and I dont see any need for them.

Am I missing something on leaning towards the standard T3X 16" vs the Roughtech Ranch..?

Going to pick up my donor from PSA this afternoon. $703 out the door with tax and shipping. Not too great that they still charge you $19 to have it shipped to the store, but it was still a good deal. Will end up being $628 after the rebate.

oh you're one of those people?
not sure if directed at me, and if so, what that means?

in any event, for my latest, i did actually buy a complete 7rm for the action, to put together a 6.5 prc. was cheaper than buying just an action from JA, although a little more work.

@wind gypsy what are you planning to build? I’m considering a 6 creed on a tikka. Trying to find out if there is a best donor cartridge, especially if planning to use the factory mag. More specifically, will a short action donor be fine with the bolt stop and mag spacer, or would the longer version allow you to optimize cartridge length?

Best resale:

My guess would be an 8 twist 22-250. Lots of guys building 22 creeds that would pay good money for an 8 twist 224 barrel. 2nd choice is 6.5 creed as those are popular caliber as well.

Best overall:

8 twist 243 if you can find one is ideal since the gunsmith can just set back the barrel and you have a 6 creed.

Choice depends on what you can find and at what price.

6.5 creed is what I’ve used, they come with the m+ mag which is longer than the m mag that I believe comes with 308, 7/08, 243, 22-250, etc.

Most 6 creed ammo will still be short enough to not be limited by a standard m mag though. With 108 EH and 109 ELDm I end up around 2.80” it seems.

Thanks. The $629 .308 option has looked quite good if it feeds and loads the 6 creed fine

I’ve never tried it but the internet says 2.83” in the standard m mags. That is enough for any 6 creed ammo I’ve loaded but there’s a chance it might be limiting if you wanted to be on the lands with something like a 112 MB.

You’ll want more than one mag anyway and tikka mags are pretty cheap.

You are correct on the length of the standard M mags. I have measured both of mine and that is what they come out to.
