Best Cartridge for NRL Hunter?

Barrel length is a nothing burger. 24", 28", who cares.

I actually kind of like having power factor. Makes you focus on recoil management more. Appeals to me more than having a bunch of 16# dashers or 22 ARCs ruling the roost and its not like 45 rounds of 6.5 creed in a day is punishing.

Huh? There are 4 shots per stage. Max of 8 if you find all the targets and miss on all 4 of the first rounds.

8 stages per day is pretty typical where I’ve shot. Maybe it’s more elsewhere. That would avg out to 5.6 rounds per stage. If a guy were to time out on couple stages that basically means you’d be missing half of first engagements.

If a guy found every target and continued to rush through missing every single one on first round and also got a second shot off, the max rounds they could shoot is 64 on a 8 stage day (not counting bonus targets). That doesn’t happen though.

Thats a impressive amount of first round hits if you're only shooting 45 rounds for the day. OR your courses are a touch too easy. Only match I shot, there were a lot of 800+ yard targets across crosswinded valleys

I think the venue closest to me is probably one of the easiest. There's usually a couple cleans on 1 day matches and the guy who won the 2 day there this year only dropped 2 points. It's pretty short with generous sized targets. If a guy can find the targets quick, hitting them isn't tough on most stages. If I shoot 45 rounds there on an 8 stage day, it means i had a tough day and im not good.

I put a 25 Creed together this year and shot at 2 different NRL Hunter matches and enjoyed shooting it in the open heavy class. Some impacts were tough to spot but I could see most of them. It is a little bit more work than a 6.5 with maybe factory ammo but not really that much and I like having something somewhat unique even though its been around for awhile. I shoot some local PRS matches as well with it but add some weights to it. Its a fun gun to shoot and is pretty accurate so I think I am going to stay with the 25 myself.

What are the specs on your 25 creed rifle and load?

I'm debating on whether or not to get a 25 creed or a 6.5 creed. I'd prefer to shoot in the open light class but I don't think my chassis will allow it. I'm thinking 135 bergers will be the choice bullet

6.5 creedmoor would be my pick. I shot the 147 eldms at the NRL match and I had impacts out to 1,000 without issue. The SDs seemed to be tolerable and the ammo is cheap-ish.

I'm putting together a 25 creed...and a 25 prc. Both from tikkas.

The prc will be my primary hunting rifle. Final weight should be sub 9#. 23.25" barrel. I fully intend to use it at some nrl's. I think I can get the 135s to 3100 pretty mildly. But we will see. I'll probably figure out how to velcro some lead to the barrel channel in my peak 44 stock to get closer to 12#.

The 25 creed....well I'm going full comp retard. Got a 28" carbon 6 coming. I'm hoping to get a not too hot load to 2950-3000 fps. I'll probably do a super mild load for prs stuff. It'll be long. But I'm running a 24" + tbac 9 now and it's fine. 28" + hellfire might be shorter.

Where I suck most is the wind calls. And both of those options have a meaningful improvement over my 6.5 creed and 140 hybrids at 2765 fps. Amarillo and especially Clovis ate my lunch with the winds swirling down off of those bluffs.

Maybe recoil will be a bit more. But now that I've got a hellfire match, that'll help tame it some, and I just plan on not missing

I know anything over 2830 from a 24in barrel with H4350 is over 60k psi according to quickload and grt. So factoring another 50fps for 2in of barrel. You'll be under or at 2900 at the similar pressure. I've had a few 25cm and they all seem to shoot really well at 2850-2870 with 135s. I'm using these in prs rifles with 28in barrels so my pressure is lil less than shorter barrels. Sometimes you get a fast barrel, sometimes a slow one. This was why I decided on 65cm, as I can run much slower velocity with the 150+ gr bullets, and still be well above power factor. 60k plus pressure and bad weather and a dirty rifle or wet ammo makes for problems in my experience.
