Best Caliber for Deer for 200+ Yard Shots?

As my name indicates, I love my .35 Remington for these smaller Arkansas whitetails out to 200. I have hit targets at 250 accurately, but would be hesitant to use it on deer that far. When I may have a chance at a shot 250+, I use a 6.5 CM. I reload the 6.5 with 127gr TTSX or 143 ELD-x. Great performance on both.

Our property where I hunt in LA, lower Alabama, is over a bean field where 200-300 and longer shots are common. My two go to rifles have always been a pre64 model 70 super grade featherweight in 308 and a model 700 Sendero, the first model not new ones in 300 win mag but I recently bought a CA Mesa in 6.5cm so I'm switching to that next season.

I have a few chambering that I might use from my safe for that. 30-06, 270 win ,270 wby, 308 and 7mm08.
270 win and the 7mm08 have been going hunting the last five years or so. Both handle short to longer range opportunities when needed. Im not a long range guy and would be hard pressed to take shot over 250- 300 yrds. If all I was doing was 200 yards and up I would use the 270 wby. But If that was the case I would need some practice at longer range.

Boots that allow you to be sneaky and get closer than 200+ otherwise a 50 BMG. Without knowing what you already have this question is hard to answer. The answer is probably a better scope and more range time with what you already have. Or again be sneaky.

270 is my favorite for deer and antelope. Flat shooting, good ammo availability, hard hitting with reasonable recoil. Preferred over the 7mm-08 only due to ammo availability. They’re almost ballistic twins. Tough to beat IMO

the 270 with handloads will out perform the 7/08
