Best Bullet GR Weight for Black Bear with 300 WM

From 600-700 yds? There wont be a shot opportunity anyway because the damn things never stop moving…😔
Had one walk out on a rock slide at 600 yards one morning. I was dialed and prone and he stopped for long seconds eating acorns off a single oak in the slide. A 195 eol dropped that one right there. So it can happen. But you are right, mostly they never stop wandering.

everybody can see the life differently and even you can change his mind thus the reason i moved from lead to copper ...
I don’t disagree but I have not seen one single study that conclusively convinced me that lead ingestion from wild game killed with lead projectiles have any detrimental effects on humans.

We eat nothing but game meat in our family for 40+ years, killed with lead bullets and not one person has ever had concerns raised at annual medical visits.

Given that, I will continue to use lead bullets as they have proven to be more effective at killing animals in my personal experience.

For clarification, I shoot long range 1000+ at the range very consistantly with the Berger 215gr Berger. Obviously anything longer than 400 yards is not ideal but is very possible with terrain considerations ect. Max COAL is just under the max mag lengeth of the Bergara is roughly 3.70". I don't want to end up having a bear run off into the river ect. Anyone have any experience with the Berger 205 Elite Hunter?

As I understand it, shots greater than 300 yards are somewhat common in the world of hunting Black Bear? I have never hunted them as for the inital question at the begining of the thread. Open to any and all opinions on the matter.

I am currently doing some load development for a black bear cartridge out of by Bergara in 300 Win Mag. I have currently been shooting the 180 Gr Barns TTSX's at 3000FPS. They have great performance of Sub half MOA. Curious if anyone else has a larger 200+ Gr Bullet they would reccoment. I have tried the 200gr Nosler Partitions and had ok performance out of them. The max rage would be 600-700 yards.
I shot my 581 pound bear with a 210 Berger hunting VLD and he ran 8 yards and piled up.

I shot barnes 165TTSX out of my 300wsm and shoots great out to 700yrds. It is my everything gun, but I have taken elk, many deer, antelope and 1 bear with it. Great expansion and all were quick kills. I tried the 180 ttsx last year and it shot well, but I think I am going to stay with the 165 grain.

My father prefers the 180 berger, but he has a 7mm. Every gun shoots a little different, I think as long as you are accurate and confident, any of the bullets above are good. I would not go lower that 150 grain, we tried 130's a long time ago on a white tail hunt and the rounds disintegrated and created the most bloodshot I have ever seen. We lost a bunch of meat, we really were not expecting that.

This is so true. I hunted black bears for years without being successful, and not for lack of seeing them, but I could never get them to stand still!
