My heart felt like it was going to explode before I shot him, I'm pretty sure it did on the 6 mile pack out.

Co otc diy public land unit 62. We got here Saturday and hunted for a few days with very little sign or sounders, finally on the 7th I found the bedding area and heard some slight bugles

This is my CO otc diy 2016 elk, first backcountry hunt, first time to hear and elk bugle, first elk hunt ever. Obviously lots more went into this hunt as all of you know. I also met a great hunting partner on this forum earlier this year and he was right there with me throughout this experience. I couldn't of done this without him.

What on earth is "semi-OTC"?

Haha it's a draw for archery, easy draw with several leftovers but OTC for all rifle seasons, so i like to think of it as a OTC hunt since it gets hammered in rifle season and the tags are plentiful and anyone could get one for archery but I did still draw the tag.

Well here is my north Idaho bull... First branched bull I have taken and could not be happier... Called into 14 yards and went less than 30 yards including sliding about 10 yards down a log and under a couple logs.. Thanks kifaru and rokslide for this!! Wish the pics with duplex would of turned out.

His head and neck were both massive according to the taxidermist. I don't have much first hand experience but thought they were big.. Haha
