Don’t buy anything you can’t try on first, or send back for an exchange/refund. When I decided to start investing in higher quality boots, I learned real quick that what is great for one guy, may be horrible or another. The first time I ever went into an REI, I tried on almost every brand of boot they carried. One brand fit me better than all the rest without question......Lowa. I wanted to like the other brands, but the reality was they just did not fit my foot well.

I got myself into a pair of Asolo flames cheap from Sierra trading post. Haven’t done anything serious in them yet, but with a pair of green superfeet insoles they feel great so far.

Let us know how they work out, I bought a pair and the had holes were the boot flexes ( behind your toes) within 25 miles on them. I don’t do asolo any more.

La Sportiva Nucleo on Camofire today for 109 debating on buying them just to have something to compare...I’m really not used to the stiffness of these types of boots as it’s mostly just flatland around here. Wish there was some place close to try some different types. Wish they just all fit like a nice pair of sneakers

Think I might run to REI tomorrow and try on several pairs depending what they have in a size 13. Told my son if he wants would go to Wichita MTns on Xmas and go for a light hike. They have a couple of easy trails I'm told so this would be perfect time to try them out.

So looking for recommendations on what the best bang for the buck is when it comes to boots. I am in the middle of the country OKC planning on a upstate elk/moose hunt in the next few years. Following several of the fitness threads so want to get out and find a boot I can survive in for 1-2 week hunt. I normally hunt in muck boots however I stand hunt so these at best get a 100-200 yard trek to the stand then back to camp. Thanks for the help.

I’m from Oklahoma and what you normally use here is no bueno in the mountains. I run Crispi Nevada and the Guide boot. They fit my foot which is priority #1 in mountain boots. No amount of money will overcome a bad fitting boot. Find what fits! Boots stayed wet for a solid week this elk season in CO and I had the only boots in camp that didn’t soak through. Probably the most comfortable all leather hunting boot I’ve seen. No hotspots, blisters or wet feet. Highly recommend. No matter which way you go CHANGE OUT THE INSOLES!

I agree with some of the other posters that recommended Asolo’s. I’ve been using the Fugitive’s for 7 or 8 years now and have been completely satisfied in their comfort and longevity. I’ve been getting a couple of years of hard year round use out of a pair. As mentioned- proper fit is gonna be your most important starting point. Go somewhere that has multiple options to try on and preferably qualified help...it will worth any premium you pay for your boots.

wow, that’s incredible, if you wear them any at all. Mine had holes wore in the pivot ( balls) in less then 25 miles ( one week I believe it was) .

Lowa Mtn Hunter Extreme GTX here.

Been to the Rockies several times for elk. Worked great!

One trip to Brooks Range for moose. Not quite as good. One thing I learned in Alaska: Your “waterproof” hunting boots aren’t!!
Waders all the way!

I'm extremely happy with my Cabelas Meindl Ultra lights. I have 4 pair of them. Insulated and un. Cabelas quit carrying them when Bass Pro took over, but you can now find them on the Meindl website, uninsulated for $200.

Another vote for Crispi boots! I live in south Texas and I’ve worn my Guide GTX as my hunting boot and my main boot for work on the ranch for the past couple of years. They still look great, 100% dry feet and breathable. I also use some SuperFeet insoles since I wore out the original ones. They are a bigger investment than some other boots but you can get these boots re-soled over and over. That makes them pretty affordable over time. Oh yeah.... did I mention they don’t leak? Lol

Been wearing the Lowa's all week with 3 days of green inserts such a huge difference with the inserts thanks again everyone for the input. Now to wait on my Hoffman pacs any suggestions on socks use the Wigwam mountaineering sock but might be a little thick for these boots.
