Best boots for the $$$

So looking for recommendations on what the best bang for the buck is when it comes to boots. I am in the middle of the country OKC planning on a upstate elk/moose hunt in the next few years. Following several of the fitness threads so want to get out and find a boot I can survive in for 1-2 week hunt. I normally hunt in muck boots however I stand hunt so these at best get a 100-200 yard trek to the stand then back to camp. Thanks for the help.

I like Salomon Quest 4Ds for the money. Danner Pronghorns are great if they work for your feet.

I got myself into a pair of Asolo flames cheap from Sierra trading post. Haven’t done anything serious in them yet, but with a pair of green superfeet insoles they feel great so far.

I've been extremely happy with Crispi. Expensive but well constructed, comfortable, waterproof and mine show almost no wear after 3 hard seasons.

Scarpa are the only boots I roll with now(the most durable and waterproof boot I’ve used), I’ve used Salewa(the most comfortable I’ve ever worn), crispi
( rarely stay waterproof after a solid years use). That being said you need to find a really good quality waterproof boot that fits your foot the best.

Danner pronghorns leak like a sieve in my experience. I’ve been real happy with a pair of asolo hunter GV boots I bought on Sierra trading post for $200. I broke them in all summer and they performed well on a 9 day mule deer hunt in Utah this october.

I have about 50 miles on my hoffman hunters and wish i would have sprung for a pair of boots that quality a lot sooner.

I've read nothing but good reviews about Hoffman's just worried about ordering online and not liking them or they fit improperly.

I have a pair of Crispis and they are unreal how water proof they are. People think I am crazy going on overnight hikes through swamp and muskag in non rubber boots but the crispis are unreal.

Giving advice on boots is like giving advice on condoms. The problem is they don’t fit everyone the same. The other problem is it can be painful and /or expensive if they don’t fit right.

Haven’t been to OKC in a while so I’m not sure what is there anymore. I would go to one of the outdoors stores and try on several. The used to have a Backwoods outdoor store. Seems like they were pretty good. Get a good insole. I like the thick ones by SOLE. Make sure to wear them while you are breaking the boot in.

@Donk Well I have 5 kids so never did find one that fit just right. I looked up backwoods will try and run up there this weekend along with an REI store and they carry the Lowa's and maybe I can find a pair of boots that fit just right. At the very least maybe better luck with boots that fit just right.

You can grab Crispi’s off Camofire for $250 occasionally. I grabbed a pair on account of the sale. Great so far but I haven’t been backpacking with them yet b

What style of hunting are you considering? If it is going to be in steep mountainous country then you are going to want a boot that is fairly stiff. Or if you are going retaliative flat then you can get away with a more flexible boot. I have been using Hanwag for about 5 years and really like them for my style of hunting, but they are a stiff boot which helps in the steep rugged country I play in. I use the Tatra Top GTX. Another Hanwag I have been eyeing is the Trapper Top GTX. I like Hanwags lacing eyes. They have roller balls in them and I have not had to change laces yet in them.

I've got a pair of Lowa Tibet His for sale, they're a great boot if you're looking g a for a stiff, rugged boot. I'm only selling them because I live down south now and dont have any hunts out west planned for quite a while.

For the OP, I’d second the Asolo Hunter GV, spent 10 days in CO archery elk hunting this past Sept with them. Have put 150 miles on them in Last year, and I rotate through 4 pairs of different boots. They’ve been awesome - very comfortable with superfeet insoles and durability and water proofness has been superb.
IF you go by REI, they generally don’t carry the Hunters, but they do carry the Fugitive and the fit is identical. I’ve actually found almost all Asolo’s to fit the same, regardless of model.
If you’re a muck boot guy and want to invest in a hybrid style boot that could do some double duty in OK and out west, you might look into a taller option. The Asolo Hunter GV is 8” but they also make a Hunter version (forget name) that is 10”.
Good luck, there are lots of solid options out there that can make the decision hard - but as wise folks on this site have said before - there’s a couple of area’s you do not want to skimp and your boot is one.

Man if I was honestly looking for a budget pair of mountain boots, I personally would very strongly consider a set of Scheels Western river Crispi boots for 300$.
