I agree with others on the Leupolds. Have BX3s in 8x32 and BX4s in 10x42. Prefer the 8x32s due to size and wider field of view. Made in Japan, good glass. Need to spend a lot more to get appreciably better glass.
If eye relief is not important, another option would be used high end porros. Swarovski, Steiner, Fujinon, Swift, and Zeiss all made some outstanding porro prism binoculars, just to name a few. A few years ago I compared a pair of multicoated Zeiss 10x50 Dekarems from 1980 to a pair of non HD Vortex Diamondback 10x50's. The Zeiss was alot better to my eyes in every regard except eye relief, with a tremendous advantage in FOV and color rendition. I did not expect to see such a huge difference.
