Looking for suggestions on a scope for a beater ranch rifle can’t get SWFA in Canada. Was thinking diamond back tactical or arken epl4. nothing fancy just something that can track and that would hold zero bouncing around in farm equipment is the main goal

You didn't say what magnification range or shooting ranges you expect.

Trijicon Huron if you can get it on sale. I bought one last year and it does almost everything a guy could want except the last couple minutes of legal shooting hours. Shot a buck at sunrise - 30 minutes but in a field. If it was in the woods, never would have seen the deer in the scope.

Otherwise find an old US-made VX2 or VX3 or Viper - say pre 2010 and it will be a good beater scope that will hold a zero. The new stuff is a negative. I have a 2006 VX2, a late 90s VX3 and an early 2000s Viper - all better than the new stuff.

Diamondback is a negative. Burris Fulfield is better. I have one of each - haven't beat on either or tested them in low light. Bought both for the simple BDC they have. One is on ML, one on 350 L.

Bushnell Banner is also a good "clunker" scope. Have a couple of these - really like the circle plex reticle and heavy lines in the reticle. Had it on a ML and pistol caliber gun. Running a 4x right now on a pistol cal carbine and it is good to 200 yards on steel. Seems to hold zero - been using them for years but no real abuse.

I can't say I had great experiences with the old friction Leupolds, either.

If a simple duplex is good enough for what you're doing, the older LOW built Bushnell elites were pretty tough. Likewise with older Sightrons and Cabelas Alaskan Guide scopes, which were built by Kenko like the Sightrons and SWFA Classics.

Now that they've been discontinued, I've seen some NF SHV's for pretty good prices. I have a few and they've been very tough.
