Best anchor?

What’s everyone using to anchor their traps? I couldn’t find anything useful at Home Depot to anchor a coyote trap.

I would buy some wolf fang anchors or something like that. You can also order rebar stakes designed specifically for trapping. I can’t think of anything you could buy at Home Depot without doing some modifications like welding, etc.

I like old snares to attach to trees or limbs. I also use a lot of two prong drags.

Wolf fang driver is like 12 or 14.00. Depends on the ground. I live in the Ozarks. Some places I cant get a wolf fang in. So I use rebar. May have to leave the rebar. But I can use it next time.

All of my traps are setup with drags and welded end to end. If I’m in a spot where I need to anchor the trap I pound a rebar stake down through the drag or quick link the chain to the stake. I have had too many earth anchors get pumped out, although I never lost one using wolf fangs. It’s easy to pull a single rebar stake most of the time with minimal tools. The only downsides to the way I do it are cost and weight, it’s easy to adapt to every situation though.

Sorry I should’ve mentioned that but yeah you need a driving tool and be mindful there are different driving tools for different styles of wolf fangs.

Can always double stake with rebar if the fangs don’t work out.

I have 5 dz set up on drags. I use them alot here. I had 1 and only 1 single stake pulled. First one i every used. And last single stake i used. Big black male coyote. I got him. If i use rebar its cross stake with 24 inch rebar.

Never had one pull a single stake with a 6-10’ chain. I have used anything from 18”-30” stakes depending on the ground and whether or not they can get lift on it. I also put a slight bend in my stakes which helps. If I were short chaining I would double stake for sure.

Wolf Fangs are great and can be reused. Some other cable stakes don't hold up well for reuse. 3/8" rebar, 18" long works great if cross staked. I got my rebar at Lowes, heated the end with a Oxy/Act torch and bent the last inch 180 degrees. Add a washer and you are good to go. Some folks will weld on or just drive on a nut.

I consider wolf fangs to be disposable. They’re hard to dig out. Also, a metal t-shaped probe rod can be purchased at a hardware store that is faster for setting anchors. Just use your weight to push it into wet winter soil.
I’ve also used cheap chain with one end looped around a tree and the other end d-ringed to the trap. I prefer wolf fangs for coyote/bobcat. Chain loops are fine for coons.

Always used either bullet anchors or a handful of drags. Never had a critter pull a trap out of the ground.

Caught a bear cub once in a Duke 1.75, and they even held that.
