I've searched and read the reviews....

It appears the Kowa 601 and 602 are perhaps the best bang for the $.... saving for one of the big 3, but in the mean time I've got $600 burning a hole in my pocket. :)
Mainly hunting W Texas, New Mexico, Arizona these days.

What say you?

TIA,
B-

Personally I'd say if you are saving for a better scope there is no reason to spend that $600 now unless you have a late season hunt you need it for. Just keep saving. Double that money and you could get a meopta... it's going to be tough to ever save for one of the big three if every time you get $600 it's burning a hole in your pocket. Probably not the advice you were looking for but it's my take.

You make a very valid point. Just sprang for a set of new Swarovski EL's, hoping they will suffice along with a less expensive spotter for now. I could be talked into spending $1k if the right deal came along.... like to keep it less for now tho.

You'll end up buying a better one..

There is a cheap way and an expensive way to get what you want.

Buy once, cry once.

Vanguard Endeavor HD is a great spotter for the mooney - many have said it compares very favorably to the Razors... I would look there. It was the best one I looked through for under 600 for sure... beat out the diamonbacks and vipers for sure.

I'm with Twall, I'm in the same boat as you and I'd rather go another 8 months saving for a kowa prominar or a used swaro. If you don't you'll always be wanting something better.

Another vote for the vanguard endeavor hd. Nothing comes close for the price.

I'm in a similar predicament, but looking for a lower end spotter considering I don't use them enough to justify spending over $1k on a spotting scope for my style of hunting. I can't speak from experience, but my research is pointing towards the:

Vanguard HD 65a-$350-$400 new
Leopold 15-30x50-$450 new

I'd love to get a 65mm razor or 60mm HD Gold Ring, but have to wait for a good used one to pop up. Hope this helps.

Between the two, the Vanguard was much better - ie clearer, crisper, and more light on higher mag... just my $.02. I looked through both, and have the Vanguard.

I've been a big fan of Nikon products for a long time and their prostaff spotter falls into your price range. I've also owned the spotter for 6 years and I'm really hoping that in 2018 to jump into a high end spotter. I've been happy with my spotters performance, I don't use it as much as the binos to really justify the big investment right now. I'd say if you have the money now and you'll be happy with how a low end spotter will perform I'd buy it.

Thanks all, any experience with the Vanguard Endeavor XF Spotting Scope as opposed to the above mentioned Vanguard hd?

Thx again,
Brad

Bradtown... I know I'm late but I have the kowa 602. It's great glass but for that money I would go with a vortex 11-33. That'd little scope blows smoke over the kowa. Just my opinion and you can buy a couple off rokslide right now for under 500. Get ya some!

I've read good things about the Athlon Ares spotter, no personal insight though.
