What is the best bang for your buck 5.56 suppressor? Mostly for an AR, although I am not a fan of low back pressure cans and just use a bootleg adjustable BCG to mitigate gas blowback.

I just bought an AB A-10 warthog, which seems to be a top contender. I think the only category it doesn’t seem to outshine the competitors is in looks. I got mine for $420 after tax on silencer shop, although I’m still waiting for approval, so haven’t gotten to test it yet. Many reviews I’ve seen online say it is quieter than even the full size polonium, which I think is another top contender. I ask because I’ll likely switch to having a dedicated 5.56 suppressor for my ARs now that the tax stamp is free and just use direct thread, which means I’ll be buying another soon (currently have ASR, but I’ll keep that for my 30 cal and up cans.)

My first can was the AB A-10 .556 and I liked it enough on both the 6ARC bolt gun and 16" AR that I got a second one so I don't have to swap between rifles. The flash hider prongs are a downside for taping the muzzle but I would consider that more of an issue for bolt guns carried muzzle up in a sling or pack.

The ribbing doubles as a rorschach test for your buddies

For the money, I don't think you can touch the 5.56 A-10. It's only downside is sound reduction, as there are quieter cans for the same size or even smaller. However, those cans cost nearly double what the A-10 goes for.

Out of curiosity, which cans have better sound performance regardless of price?

Kind of a loaded question? Depends on what you are trying to achieve for “best bang for your buck” Thanks like asking what is the best car to buy? Some might think a Toyota Corolla is great value because they dont have a family of 5, live in the city and only have a shot drive to work, others might think a F-350 is great value because there towing a 5th wheel all the time.

If you just looking for a super low cost can to plink with then sure I think you found a pretty cheap can. But others might think a completely different can is best bang for the buck depend on the desired outcome. Are you trying to get super light weight K can to just take the edge off? Are you looking for maximum sound suppression? Are you looking for maximum durability for super high rates of fire? Are you looking for maximum flash reduction for use with NODs?

Also this might sound strange but there are specific characteristics of cans that might make them good value like what mount type they have. I know when I first started buying cans I didn’t care and I regret this big time, once you start getting a lot of them you realize its really really nice when they all are the same. Seems nit picky but now for me best value for money is also having a HUB compatible can for example years and years ago I picked up one of the original SureFire RC cans and now I never use it because all my guns have Plan B mounts so buying a can with out a HUB mount even if it was super cheap is not a good value because I know I will very rarely use it.

In the grand scheme of things once you start getting multiple cans and dedicated cans I would not take price so much into account as I would the use and features it offers for your needs. And everyone’s needs are different.

This ain’t scientific, but the Banish 5.56 is the quietest I’ve used. Compared to the A-10, it was noticeably easier on the ears.

I’ve not compared them directly, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the tiny Airlock Nano is quieter as well. That’s an impressive can to say the least.

Another can i believe to be quieter is Echocore, though it’s a lot heavier. There are likely more cans that I’ve never used or even heard of that beat the A-10 head-to-head, but I don’t think anything touches it based on price vs. performance

Personally I went with the 30 cal A-10 as it adds 2 baffles over the 22 cal. If money isn’t the issue, then the AB Raptor cans have one more baffle per the same weight as an A10 which should be quieter. Also the Raptor comes up to a 10 baffle version.

The new Zero gravity cans all look great. The Nano is super small and light. I personally would probably go with the 6.5 as it’s quieter and I really don’t shoot much 22. Mostly 6mm or 25 cal.

I agree. The Airlock Zero Gravity 6.5 is my overall favorite suppressor by a large margin. It's so tiny, versatile, and effective. Next is the Zero Gravity Nano. That said, when the 6mm Zero Gravity version is released, it will become my top choice, as the largest cartridge I foresee using in the future is the 6.5 CM.

Agree on the looks. I have a .30 cal version that I like a lot. Covering the ribs with heat shield would hide the ribs. They look great on an ar or ak though.

For a dedicated AR can?
