I elk hunt in thick timber with most shots under 100 yards and was wondering what bullet to use.

I'd use a 199gr sledge hammer
Edit: looks like the name is changed to shock hammer.
I was getting great results with h1000. But now have extended my range and am now using the hammer hunters.

Perfect opportunity for a monolithic bullet. Take your choice, Barnes, Nosler, Hornady, Cutting Edge.

They work great at high impact velocity, and minimize meat damage.

Another Barnes vote. I've been using 168gr TTSX in my 300wsm for years for elk and it has always worked great. With the monometals, you can download a bullet weight for better speed and more expansion according to Barnes.

165 TTSX or 200 Partition.

180-200 gr being the “normal” range of bullets for big game hunting with 300 WM, you can go down to the 165 gr TTSX and get slightly better expansion on the solids.

Depending upon barrel length and twist, the 220 gr Partition could be a player.

Just my $0.02
