Best 223 Bolt Action Scope Choice

We spent the day product testing with our 6mm Arcs and 223. There were two 3-15 SWFA, a 2-10 Nightforce SHV, and a 3-9 SWFA.

With the lower magnification scopes we both had a hard time resolving a 1MOA white steel target on a broken snow background @ 450 yards. It was far easier to see with the 3-15. No problem on the black 2 MOA target at the same distance.

I’ve always liked 4-16 or 6-18, I’ll probably switch a few rifles to that range.

I have a Maven Rs1.2 on my 223 and love it.

This. But I'm a little bias. I bought one for my 6 UM for this season. Then bought two more. One for the kids 22 creed and one my 223. Keeps things simple when going between rifles.

Mine has had a rs1.2 on it for over a year. If I had to pull it for any reason I would throw a swfa 3-9 or 6x on it, have both on my shelf right now. Hard to pull a scope that is perfectly dialed in and had a ton of rounds through it while holding zero though.

I feel like the 6x is perfect for a 223

Right now I am leaning towards a credo 2-10x36 with the mrad ffp reticle.

This is what I have on my Tikka .223 (and I have another one that’s currently mounted on a Husqvarna 9.3x62.

I like them quite a bit, especially for the price point and features.

I haven’t had any issues with the reticle being too thin, and I think the 10X magnification is perfect for the shorter range you get with .223. I’ve had several Mavens I could have replaced it it with but haven’t.

The SWFA 3-15 ffp has been solid for me. I like the Mil Quad reticle. People that use it like it. The parallax is stiff. I'm gonna put a wheel or something on it.

The 15x would most likely prove to be useful on ptarmigan hunts then. Thanks for the info. SWFA 3-15 meets my needs. Still hard to look away from the ugly turrets though. My 10x I’ve been testing out not even using the caps.

I have one and love that scope. Using it on my 7BC. Unfortunately that model is a dying breed. Trying to add a FFP to my selection anyway.

The 3-15 is about a half inch shorter than the fixed power scope, but about an ounce heavier.

I have a Trijicon Huron 3-9X on my Tikka .223. My wife runs a 3-12X Huron on her Browning .223. The Trijicon Huron series are solid scopes for not a lot of money.

i thought the 3-15 is smaller than the fixed power scopes?

I just sold my gen 2 3-15 so I can't measure, but those turrets sure seemed to stick out further than my first gen 10x, although I was using the capped turrets.

That should be a Nightforce 3-10 on the gun, fixed 6 power in the middle & 3-15 on the top.

They’re easy to find and at a pretty good discount used… that’s one of the best killing scopes I’ve ever used

I used a 3-15 MQ on my predator rifle last year and it’s a damn good way to roll. Left it at 6/7x most of the time and turned it up to 12 or so when a dog hung up a little further out. Great scope for the money.
