I’m looking at the Bergara Highlander and I am wanting a shorter barrel. Looks like it comes standard with a 24” barrel and I’d like to cut it down some for using in a deer blind/stand. The barrel fluting will be a limiting factor on how far I can go. Anyone have a Highlander and can let me know how much could be trimmed off? I can’t find any in stores and will have to order.

If you've got the time on your hands, you should just wait for the Bergara Canyon to come out. It's practically a Highlander with an AG Composites stock, M5 bottom metal, and shortened barrel.

Ooh I knew that answer was coming! LOL. It’s a great looking rifle. I was afraid it’d be later before we started seeing them. It’s definitely an option.

I have a Highlander. I just grabbed a tape and measured it. There are 3 1/2" from the end of the barrel to the start of the fluting. This is with the thread protector screwed on. Hope this helps.

Also, just a heads up, I love the rifle. I think you'll be pleased if you get one.

Not to derail the thread, but quick question about your highlander. Is yours a long action? If so, how much room do you have in the mag box?

It is a long action. 300 Win Mag. I wasn't able to get very detailed with it, but I did a quick measurement before I headed out the door. It looks like it is roughly 3.70"

I have the HMR, Highlander and ridge. Sold my approach although it was the most accurate rifle I’ve owned. The canyon is coming out which is shorter. If you’re looking for just a gun for the blind then the ridge is perfect. Comes in barrel lengths from 18” (sp, special purpose) up to 22”. I have one in 7m-08 and it’s a rack driver and a lot cheaper than a highlander.
