Benelli Montefeltro vs Beretta A400?

I am going to most likely buy one of these guns, I would like to hear what peoples experience is with these two if someone has either owned both or been around both a significant amount of time.

2 different guns and both are good ones. If I never intended on shooting 3.5's...I'd buy the Montefeltro. Go shoulder both and see which feels better to you.

The A400 is an excellent gas operated shotgun. They mitigate recoil fairly well. I owned two of the watefowl model the "extreme plus" and my duck hunting partners shoot the xplor. They do require more cleaning than an inertia gun like the Monte, but they shoot well and that gas system is mucho reliable and fast.

All that said, I sold my a400s and now shoot Benelli's. They swing better for me so my hit rate is higher with them despite them recoiling a bit more.

The new Monte is a pretty shotgun.

I don't think you will be unhappy with either.

As stated above, go and handle/shoulder both guns. Some guns have different handle swells and forehand rests. Get a feel for which one fits you best. What may fit someone might not fit you. I recommend shouldering the different guns with your eyes closed. Once the gun is in place, open your eyes and see how it fits to you. If you need to adjust anything (head, shoulder, etc) to line up with the barrel, the guns doesn’t fit you. The gun should shoulder like an extension of your arm and fit without any adjustments.

Benellis are known for shooting higher then the point of aim. The beretta A400 has a big hand swell. Both guns are awesome.

Seems to be more of a SBE3 thing. The Monte may not have this feature/problem. Supposedly the M2 does not share this same feature that the SBE3 does. Regardless it's good to know that it could happen. Both my SBE3 are about 60/40 or 70/30.... so a little high but very useable.

I have never hunted with the A400 but they seem heavy and awkward for me personally. I had a SBEII and could not get used to the extra high rib. It always shot high for me and I sold it. I bought the Montefeltro because it had a regular ribbed barrel like I was used to for my whole life and couldn't be happier. I like them so much that I bought another to use strictly for duck hunting. Shoots great and is extremely reliable.
I would go to a gun store that has both in stock and pick them up and see what they feel like to you. Both are excellent choices IMO.

Try and shoulder both to see what feels better to you. I love every benelli I've ever shot and have no desire to shoot something else.

I have a Beretta A400 with Kick-off mechanism. I don't feel any recoil reduction,it still kicks like a mule with 3" heavy loads. Trap loads feel nicer.

I had a Winchester SX3, and it liked every load I fed it. I was always intrigued by the Beretta A400 Kick-off system. I've owned it for a year. It's a great shooter; it's just that I'm not sure it kicks less than the Winchester SX3.

Try TSS shells. No need for 3.5" if you use those shells. In fact, I dropped down to a 20 gauge for turkeys with TSS.

Had a 20 ga montefeltro about 10 years ago. The shell elevator would really hurt your thumb when loading the mag if your weren't super careful. Not sure if they've fixed that but it was a big problem.

A400 is a very well built gun that for me shoots much better than it felt in the store. Wish I'd bought the a400 instead of the maxus.

Benelli Montefeltro has my vote. They are much lighter and dependable. I've had one for close to twenty years never had it jam. Clean it once a year. I use it mostly for Chukar hunting.

I’ve had a Beretta A400 12 gauge for 4 years now and love it. The gun cycles every kind of shell you feed it. I like it so much that I bought a A400 20 gauge, so there’s less shot in my birds!

I don’t think you could go wrong with either, both are great shotguns. Do you want a gas or inertia operated gun? Shotguns are very individual too, hold both and see which fits you better. I personally really like the benellis and have an SBE1 and an SBE3.

In comparison to what? I have an a400 with KO and feel like there is little to no recoil. Just got back from a 3 day crane hunt shooting heavy loads. Night and day comparison to a Remington 870 in terms of recoil.
