Im looking at buying my first bow next year and am in the early stages of research. I found out i have a 31.5" draw. So it kind of makes it more important what bow i get. Im trying to keep it under $1000 with all the gear i need. So the question is. Should i look primarily at used or lower end bows and 2nd what bows down you guys recomend as easy to learn good technique on that would give me room to grow for a few years.

Call Boyd at Archery In the Wild in Longmont, Co. 720-652-9100. They aren't open Sundays, but he knows his stuff. A little bit of a hike for you, but he'll know what to do. Quite a few bows on the rack, but I'm a lefty, so I have to shoot RH bows to get a feel for them.

No, I'm a short lefty. But they've got a lot of bows on the wall, Bowtech, Mathews, Elite, Obsession, Hoyt that I can easily recall, and should have a few that work for you tall guys. That's part of why I said call......save a wasted trip, too...but you could try a 30" bow, to see how it drew and shot. Just have to order the real one. I shot an Obsession RH bow left handed, fired one arrow, and threw a mastercard on the table. I knew with one arrow that the bow was for me.

I draw about 30. Get remeasured before you commit to a bow. The first shop that I went to measured me at 31.

Btw, I am shooting a HOYT pro defiant 34. Very happy with it.

Just make sure you actually shoot what you end up buying......before buying it. I've found a lot of bows that they seem to force to go to a long draw length that don't shoot anything like they do at their shorter draw lengths. Harder draw, very little let-off, no valley, lots of cam lean.......not much fun to shoot them.

Also look for a longer length bow, stay with 35"+. The shortest bow I've owned was 36 3/4" ATA. I'm LH and 32 1/2" draw, so finding bows is sometimes difficult. If you could find a 2006 Bowtech Old Glory, I'd jump all over it. It would be cheap and you're not giving up much over newer bows. I've seen some 2005's (black cams) on Ebay for cheap but haven't seen an 06 for awhile. I wouldn't get an '05. I have a 2014 PSE Freak SP which isn't that much faster than my Old Glory, but the Freak SP is also a decent LD bow.
