Beer Can stove

Interesting take on alcohol stoves. I have played around with them as well and built several. It seems this one might be better with a wider pot as I would think a lot of heat is escaping around the side of this pot.

i made a few variations. drove my wife crazy. i would light them..oohh and aaawww..and run and get her so she could "enjoy the experience" with me. she almost locked the back door when i was running in with boil-time updates.

i took one of them on a trip with me. i crushed it accidentally. i could push out the dents easily..but the lesson was learned. i got a white box stove. that thing is tough. cost me $20. have not even lit the thing yet. but i will..my poor wife. hahah.

Lol, yeah, my girlfriend was less than impressed with my creations as well. I would even turn down the lights to make it all romantic and all but the most I got was an eye roll. Also didn't help when a little alcohol spilled onto the counter and left a little burn mark

On this topic though, anyone actually use alcohol stoves as part of their regular gear. It seems like a decent idea but it just never clicked for me as the best way. I was quickly back to a jetboil type setup. I guess going solo on a quick trip, the alcohol stove would be alright. It also seems to be a better fit for the warmer weather backpacking and scouting trips. To me it just seemed like too much to mess with and the weight penalty of a jetboil and fuel cannister was worth it for the near instant hot water and minimal fiddling.

Great topic. I have been playing around with alcohol stoves for about a year now. So far out of the six or seven ive tried the starlite is the lightest, most efficent and uses the least fuel. Still combining a alcohol stove, mug, wind screen the math as far as weight only plays out for a hunt 4 days or under. This is if you figure the entire weight of the stove and fuel. Now i am using my Jet Boil SOL titanium as a comaparison. Anything longer than 4 days and the jet boil is actually lighter. My setup the starlite uses 1/2 ounce for a boil, so coffee in the morning, a boil for lunch and 1 for dinner thats 1.5 ounces of alcohol a day. If you add that weight in plus weight of the stove and mug and wind screen, the jet boil with a small 100 gm cylinder is actually lighter, again that is the sol titanium jet boil at like 8.3 ounces. This last elk season the my first hunt was a 4 dayer so i went alcohol. It worked fine, one slight problem is you cant see the flame so didnt really like that, but other than that i had no probleM. I was wondering how it would do in wet conditions.

I use alcohol and esbit when I am backpacking or just looking for a quick meal and hot drink. I kind of made my own kit that combines a Toaks 550M cup, Caldera Cone, Esbit Titanium holder and starlyte alcohol stove. This system will work with both esbit tabs or alcohol stove.

The Esbit Titanium tab holder supports the cup. When in alcohol stove mode, I use the tent stakes to support the cup.

for some reason the attachments are not showing in the post, but the links work on my end. Not sure why this happened, I used the picture tool in the post.
