Who makes a GOOD heavy duty carbon tripod, with an adjustable center post? Strictly a truck glassing and range day tripod. 2 or 3 section preferably. Don’t need 4 sections.

I picked up an aluminum Gitzo in Paris in 1983 when the exchange rate was crazy good. Still more than $300 at the time. Heavy, but super configurable -- and it's still going strong.

Check out the Leofoto CN 403CX with the add-on DC-322C Carbon Fiber center post if you need it.
Light and tall with 40/36/32mm legs. The legs have a 100lb capacity if I remember correctly.
  • 57.5 w/o center (add another 12" with the DC-332C)
  • Folded is 26.3
  • 4.63 lbs
  • 110 LB
DC-322C
  • 7.87" to 12.6"
  • 7oz

I decided to swallow my pride and just go with a tripod without a center post. I’m sure I’ll cuss it a few times, but I’ll get it figured out. Went with the Two Vets inverted Recon V2

Just googled that, and the inverted leg segments seems like a great idea for rigidity. I'll be needing to get a more rigid tripod for heavier glassing setups, so any feedback you share at some point would be great.

You will be happy with that one - very nice tripod! I’ve never wished I had a center post for road glassing with my heavy spotter.

Yeah I think I’ll be alright! It’ll certainly be less shaky when deployed at standing height

Just curious, why were you initially after the center post? I like mine with center post for quicker adjustments with binos, but it's never felt stable when extended even with a compact spotter. Especially for a truck tripod, I think (and hope) you'll be quite happy without the center post. Just finally got a heavy one with no center post for truck/range glassing, and I'm a big fan already.

Just exactly as you said. Easy quick height adjustment is all. And I figured at some point there would be one beefy enough to not be unstable when slightly extended.

But this one I decided on is unreal stable. No regrets.

I marked the second set of legs with a silver sharpie on the where the right standing height is to save me time.

Right on. Thanks for the follow-up.

I'm glad you're digging the new one. I need to mark mine as well. Silver sharpie is a great call. I've got one around here, hadn't thought of it. Cheers!

Where’d you end up ordering from?

Looks like you found one but I just picked up a slik 933. It has a center post but definitely doesn’t need it, probably up to 6’ 3” or so.

I ordered from campsaver and they had a 25% off code at the time.

Oh that would have been a good option. I currently had an 834 as my truck tripod. It was okay. But was definitely looking for something sturdier

I love my Recon V2. Absolutely rock solid for kneeling, sitting and standing shots. Very reasonable weight for the stability as well.
