Bed covers/caps for 2020 Tundra

I've been using a trifold bed cover on my tundra for about 4.5 years. It has never been waterproof/dust proof and honestly is a piece of crap. The top is delamonating, one of the bars that latches a section down has fallen off twice and no longer usable, it's not secure from theft what so ever (even brand new), and the mounting brackets that hold the cover vertical so you can access the entire bed are made of plastic so good luck not driving 70 phone and them not breaking.

That being said I'm considering going to a waterproof/dust proof cap. I work out of my truck so being able to haul tools to job sites is always nice and half the time I have to fold the trifold due to tools being taller than my bed. My wife and I also hunt as well so being able to store gear 9n trips is awedully nice. Throw in a 17 month old daughter with the wife wanting another kid and it just makes sense to have better bed storage.

So far I've looked at the Smartcap brand and the Openroad brand. Both are very similar. I do like the ability to add a mesh panel behind the glass for extra security on the smart cap and they make a storage rack as well that bolts to the top of the cap. The downside is it's twice the peice of the openroad. That being said, I've had my truck broken into and not only did they steal what was in the cab they also stole our luggage out of the bed. It seems that if locked the smart cap would make it quite hard to quickly break into a vehicle.

Does anyone have any experince with either of these bed caps?

Muchly appreciated

I have a Leer 100R and I just finished vacuuming out the back of my truck (2021 Tundra) after a short trip.

I will say that no cap will defeat that massive gap between the tailgate and the bed. I often stuff low density foam at all spaces around the inside of the tailgate and it does help a great deal. Even on my Leer, it only seems to leak dust at the front corners.

I used bulb seal on my tailgate and adjusted the window to latch tight, still get dust 6 inches into the bed, none further forward. The most dustproof topper from my research is a Caravan steel shell made in Reno NV, it uses a positive pressure vent on the leading edge of the roof to pressurize the box. Have thought about installing a solar powered marine vent on the front edge of my Leer topper to do the same thing. Now I just painter tape the tailgate and topper window joints when I am on dirt roads.

I have also thought about gaffer tape for the seams but haven’t done it yet.
