Hello Roksociety, I’m new to town in SLC and meat eater has peaked my interest in alternative meats. I’d love to try beaver and, if possible, help trap one. Anyone have a hot lead around town? I’d be thrilled to set some traps, check some traps, or simply have a roast :’) although I’d rather pull my weight in the matter.

Let me know some thoughts or ideas!

I think you'll have a hard time finding someone that will take you trapping. They hold their spots close to their chest just like elk hunters do with their elk spots.
Always heard the same as a morel hunter, but I readily drop those spots as I move lots and am practically an expert at finding new ones. I keep a secret well & would be more than happy avoid any areas of interest

Back 20 years ago there was a place out there called

American B…

I just can’t quite remember but that’s where I’d start in SLC if I was still there.

Honestly their not bad table fair.

Have kept a few right before ice out in the late spring.

Really dark meat. Little greasy. Had a Chislic fry one night with the buds. Didn't tell anyone till the next day. Everyone thought it was good.

Next to nobody is trapping beaver anymore because they aren't worth anything unless the landowner is paying. Buy some 330s, most days checking beaver traps it's not if you got one but how many. Look for bank dens with entrances that have hard bottoms. I don't eat them but feed them to my dogs and use for lure. I'm sure they are good though.

Another meateater recruit.

Used to do a fair bit of beaver hunting in college but got married and I can promise you that nothing will upset a marriage quicker than beaver hunting. Hell even beaver looking can get you in a bad spot.
Dropped my first mule deer 4pt buck this year & swallowed an Elk tag at once all thanks to that show! Couldn’t appreciate it more.
