A Canadian Man Shot A Grizzly Bear In His Backyard And People Are Actually Defending Him (VIDEO) - Narcity

Hmmmm.

Hard to tell but it seems like he was trying to scare a sow with cubs away. Maybe trying to keep them away from his dog on the video. The sow charged. Heat stumbled back and shoots. Looks like he lost some footgear but connected with at least one shot. Not sure what firearm or load but it appears to be a pump shotgun and a reasonably well placed shot.

The shot stops the charge. Bear does a head roll and appears to be stunned or something. It recovers and continues pursuit.

Looks like he got away and the article indicates the bear may have been more or less fine as well.

Crazy video. Can’t say I am a fan of his plan to confront a sow with cubs. Seems like a bad idea that could and did result in a charge.

The guy is an idiot, I hope out COs charge him. No need to engage like that, and he almost got a darwin award.

The bear is not fine, last time I checked, bears do not have shot proof fur, and close distance blast, even with bird shot will do some damage.

Most outdoors folks up here are pissed.

If they called the CO, first thing the CO would say is pick your apples and get rid of the attractant. Bella Coola is a small isolated town, I'm sure the CO wasn't 'hours' away. Not to mention if they had been hanging around for a while, why wasn't the CO called already?

Should have called in the dog and watched the show!

Screw that!! In my yard???? I would have been loaded with slugs or 000.
And yes, afterwards, a Backhoe.

Easy to judge from the outside looking in. Personally I don’t judge anyone for how/when they protect their family, if he ignores the bear and it comes back when the kids are out in the yard playing...doubt that would be better.

With all that wilderness around, yet the bears choose his backyard to hang out...perhaps he approached it in a manner most of us would not, but you can't let bears acclimate to your yard. Unless you plan to guard your wife and kids 24/7.
