Finn m39 have been in my experience the most accurate ww2 rifles. Swedes and swiss rifles only saw range time ;)

My hex receiver vkt would give most modern sako's a run for their money with hand loads.

To be fair, a lot of Swedes fought with the Norwegian resistance and others. As for the Swiss, Hitler at his most insane even came to the conclusion that invading Switzerland was not in his best interest. When Henri Guisan, the supreme commander of the Swiss Army was asked in 1937 how an army of 250,000 citizen soldiers planned to stave off an invasion by 500,000 SS troops he replied: "Shoot twice and go home." Riflery is the national sport of Switzerland.

The Finns did make a very good rifle, but there aren't many of them used in vintage rifle matches. I've been told by various serious vintage rifle guys that it's anything from the twist rate/bullet combo to head spacing and since you're required to shoot only period correct ammunition, it negates the benefits of good hand loads. I've got a M91/30 with a Finn barrel and it's a very good shooter.

"Shoot twice and go home". That's awesome! I've never heard that story.

Super group OP. I've never been that lucky. All my great shooting rifles either were higher end more expensive, or tons of tweaking. Dad did have a Ruger II .270 Win. with black stock that shot 0.5" out of box.

What made the difference, if you don't mind saying?

Originally I had ground out the pressure point at the front of the stock, and it shot 165s and 220s just fine. I wanted to shoot a 180 partition out of it, and with load workup with imr4350 (same powder with other bullets) was getting 4 inch groups. Adding the pressure point back improved groups to 2 inch, and bedding the action helped slightly also. In the end, a powder change to superformance brought the accuracy with the 180.

After all that work, the 165s shoot even better, the last time I shot them, it put 20 rounds (coldish bore) into a 3/4 inch ragged hole.

In the Winter War that Finland fought against Russia just prior to WWII they lost 35,000 soldiers to Russia's 400,000. Their famous saying was "Where are we going to bury them all?" as a rebuttal to being greatly outnumbered by the Russian troops. Obviously the Finns riles worked.
