i want a lighter one. nothing special. water bottle or two (pref holders outside the pack). room inside for rangefinder, hearing earmuffs, kestrel, couple sammiches and snacks, power bar for the phone, light/small kill kit (knife, gloves). just for day hunting, not overnight. don't need a waist belt.

For this, I use the Kifaru Echo. If I want/need a bit more room, it has an expansion zipper to open it up to a little bit larger which is great for puffy layers. I also have a sherman pocket setup to add even more storage or strap bulky layers down.

You can fit all that in pockets

Depend on situation. I use the Bane from Kirfaru for my day hunting with a pouch on it too. It gets the job done for me if my hunt doesn't involve meat hauling.

I use a discontinued Kuiu, the Venture 2000-something.

It looks like their new Ranger 2200 replaced it: https://www.kuiu.com/products/ranger-2200-verde-camouflage?variant=45281885716638

For a daypack, I think Kuiu makes great options. Handful of models, removeable belts with extra storage, plenty of pockets for organizations without cluttering, comfortable enough, external pockets for water or tripods, etc. AND they frequently seem to have sales on different models

I have had plenty of other bags and I haven't heard great things about their frame packs, but the daypacks are great.
